Scope
GB/T 9779-2026 is the English-translated version of 复层建筑涂料.
GB/T 9779-2026 covers multi-layer coatings for architecture, applied to the interior and exterior walls of buildings. Compared with the 2015 edition it changes the scope and adds terms and definitions for main coatings, heat-barrier, artistic, waterproof decorative and elastic multi-layer architectural coatings, and for compatibility.
It also revises the definitions of multi-layer, multi-colour, thick-paste and rock-flake multi-layer architectural coatings. Its normative references cover paint, coating and building material test methods, along with product standards for cement, sealants and building coatings.
The foreword lists these changes against the earlier edition. Issued on 2 July 2026 and applicable from 1 February 2027, it replaces GB/T 9779-2015.

Foreword
This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents".
This document replaces GB/T 9779-2015 "Multi-Layer Architectural Coatings". Compared with GB/T 9779-2015, the main differences are structural adjustments and editorial changes.
Aside from the modifications, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) The scope has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2015 edition);
b) Added main coatings, heat-barrier multi-layer architectural coatings, artistic multi-layer architectural coatings, waterproof decorative multi-layer architectural coatings, and elastic... Terms and definitions for multi-layer architectural coatings and compatibility (see 3.3, 3.11~3.15);
c) The terms "multi-layer architectural coating", "multi-color multi-layer architectural coating", "thick-paste multi-layer architectural coating", and "rock-flake multi-layer architectural coating" have been changed.
Definitions of granular multi-layer architectural coatings and composite multi-layer architectural coatings (see 3.1, 3.6~3.10, and 3.1, 3.8~ in the 2015 edition).
d) The terms and definitions for penetrating primer, sealing primer, and intermediate coat have been removed (see sections 3.3, 3.4, and 3.5 of the 2015 edition);
e) The classification and labeling have been changed (see Chapter 4, Chapter 4 of the 2015 edition);
f) The tensile strength and thermal conductivity of interior and exterior multi-layer architectural coatings have been added as test items and methods (see Tables 1, 2, 6.8, and 6.10). Appendix A);
g) The stain resistance and impact resistance of interior wall multi-layer architectural coatings have been added as test items and methods (see Tables 1, 6.16, 6.17, and Appendix B);
h) The impermeability and compatibility of exterior wall multi-layer architectural coatings have been added as test items and methods (see Tables 2, 6.18, 6.23, and Appendix C);
i) Additional requirements for other color indicators of the resistance to artificial weathering of exterior multi-layer architectural coatings have been added (see Table 2);
j) Technical requirements for primers and topcoats in multi-layer architectural coatings have been added (see 5.3 and 5.4);
k) The scrub resistance test for Type I (multi-colored multi-layer architectural coatings) has been removed (see Tables 1 and 2 in the 2015 edition);
l) The impact resistance and water permeability of exterior wall multi-layer building coatings have been removed (see Table 2 in the 2015 edition);
m) The requirements for asbestos-free fiber cement flat panels have been changed (see 6.3.1, 2015 edition of 6.3.1);
n) The requirements for test panels of the main coating and multi-layer system have been changed (see Table 3, Table 3 in the 2015 edition);
o) The preparation of the main coating film has been added (see 6.4.2);
p) The test methods for container condition, drying time, low temperature stability, elongation at break, flexibility, bond strength, and water resistance were modified. (See Chapter 6, Chapter 6 of the 2015 edition).
