Scope
GB/T 9265-2009 is the English-translated version of 建筑涂料 涂层耐碱性的测定.
GB/T 9265-2009 is the Chinese national method for determining the alkali resistance of films of architectural paints and coatings, using a saturated calcium hydroxide solution.
It covers sampling, the test panel, the procedure, the inspection of the panels and the test report.
The substrate is a non-asbestos fibre cement flat sheet of NAF H grade V to JC/T 412.1-2006, prepared according to GB/T 9271; the test runs at a temperature of (23 ± 2) °C and a relative humidity of (50 ± 5) %, on three panels whose edges and backs are sealed with a paraffin and rosin mixture 2 mm to 4 mm wide.
Panels are then rinsed, blotted and examined at once for discoloration, bubbles, stripping, pulverization and softening. It replaces GB/T 9265-1988, was issued on 2 June 2009 and has applied since 1 February 2010.

Foreword
This Standard serves as a replacement of GB/T 9265-1988 Determination for Alkali Resistance of Film of Architectural Paints and Coatings.
In comparison with the previous GB/T 9265-1988, there are the following main technical changes.
---The substrate of test panel is modified from asbestos cement board into non-asbestos fiber cement flat sheet;
---In the result of determination, a stipulation that when pathological phenomena (bubbles, stripping and pulverization, etc.) of coating emerge, it can be determined in accordance with GB/T 1766 is added.
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the method of determining alkali resistance (saturated calcium hydroxide solution) of film of architectural paints and coatings.

3 Sampling
In accordance with the stipulation in GB/T 3186, take representative samples from products being tested (or each type of products in a multi-coating system).
4 Test Panel
4.1 Materials and Dimensions
Unless it is otherwise stipulated, the substrate of the test panel shall be non-asbestos fiber cement flat sheet that complies with NAF H Grade-V in JC/T 412.1-2006. In addition, it shall be flat and not distorted.
4.2 Processing and Preparation
Unless it is otherwise stipulated, test panel shall be processed in accordance with GB/T 9271; then, products being tested shall be coated in accordance with the stipulated method. Any difference from the requirement in GB/T 9271 shall be indicated in the test report (refer to Chapter 7).
5 Procedures
5.1 Environmental Conditions
Unless it is otherwise stipulated, the test shall be conducted under the condition of temperature (23 ± 2) °C and relative humidity (50 ± 5) %.
5.3 Test Procedures
Take 3 previously prepared test panels; use the mixture of paraffin and rosin (mass ratio. 1.1) to seal up the edges and the back of the test panels. The width of the edge sealing shall be 2 mm ~ 4 mm.
6 Inspection and Result Determination of Test Panel
After soaking is completed, take out the test panels, then, use water to rinse it. Get rid of water drops on the panels, the, use filter paper to absorb the water. Immediately observe whether the surface of the coating manifests discoloration, bubbles, stripping, pulverization and softening, etc.
7 Test Report
Test report shall at least include the following content. […]
