Scope
GB/T 8582-2008 is the English-translated version of 电工电子设备机械结构术语.
GB/T 8582-2008 is the Chinese national vocabulary for the mechanical structures of electrotechnical and electronic equipment.
Its orientation clause defines the terms used to describe a cabinet or rack: width, depth and height as the sizes taken up along the X, Y and Z axes of the equipment, then front, rear, left, right, top surface and bottom surface, and the monitoring surface and operating surface on which measuring and operating components are mounted.
According to its scope it is meant for the mechanical-structure speciality itself, for revising standards, for writing and publishing scientific literature and books, and for product development, design and company management.
The foreword states that terms were aligned with GB/T 19290.1 and that terms no longer applicable were removed. It replaces GB/T 8582-2000, was issued on 19 June 2008 and has applied since 1 April 2009.

Foreword
This standard replaces GB/T 8582-2000 "electrical and electronic equipment mechanical structural terms." This standard compared with GB/T 8582-2000, the main changes are as follows.
--- According to GB/T 19290.1 modify GB/T 8582-2000 in the corresponding terms and definitions;
--- For the GB/T 19290.1 and has been included in the GB/T 8582-2000 some of the terminology and definitions that are not in accordance with GB/T 19290.1 supplement;
--- Remove GB/T 8582-2000 term no longer applies;
--- Revised GB/T 8582-2000 in error;
--- Added some necessary terms.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the general term electrical and electronic equipment mechanical structure.
This standard applies to electrical and electronic equipment construction machinery specialized for the revision of the standard, scientific literature and write books and publishing companies The mechanical structure of product development, design and management use.
2 Orientation (see Table 1)
