Scope
GB/T 8333-2022 is the English-translated version of 塑料 硬质泡沫塑料燃烧性能试验方法 垂直燃烧法.
GB/T 8333-2022 is the Chinese national small-scale laboratory method for how rigid foamed plastics burn when held vertically.
It fixes the apparatus and the quantities measured: a stainless steel chimney lined with 0.025 mm aluminium foil, a heat-resistant glass front carrying a scale divided every 10 mm whose base sits 51 mm above the chimney floor, a three-nail specimen holder, a timing device, a Bunsen burner and a fume hood, used to record burning time, flame height and residual mass percentage after a 10 s ignition.
Clause 1 excludes materials that melt or drip during combustion and says the method cannot assess fire hazard under real fire conditions. Its index then covers the test procedure, the calculation of results and the report.
It replaces GB/T 8333-2008, was issued on 30 December 2022 and has applied since 1 July 2023.

This document replaces GB/T 8333-2008 "Test Method for Combustion Behavior of Rigid Foamed Plastics - Vertical Combustion Method", and is consistent with GB/T 8333- Compared with.2008, except for structural adjustment and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
--- Changed the scope of application of the standard (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2008 edition);
--- Added and updated relevant normative references (see Chapter 2, Chapter 2 of the 2008 edition);
--- Added the chapter "Terms and Definitions" (see Chapter 3);
--- Change "principle" to "overview" (see Chapter 4, Chapter 3 of the 2008 edition);
--- Changed the material and description of the combustion device (see 5.1, 4.1 of the 2008 edition);
---Changed the description of the timing device (see 5.2, 4.2 of the 2008 edition);
--- Changed the inner diameter and flame requirements of the Bunsen burner (see 5.3, 4.3 of the 2008 edition);
--- Changed the contents of the fume hood (see 5.5, 4.5 of the 2008 edition);
--- Changed the gauge length on the scale in Figure 1 and Figure 4 (see Figure 1 and Figure 4, Figure 1 and Figure 4 of the 2008 edition);
--- Increased the diameter of the nail on the sample holder in Figure 2 (see Figure 2);
--- Deleted the gauge length on the left side of the sample (side view) inserted in the sample holder in Figure 3 (see Figure 3 of the 2008 edition);
---Changed the precision of specimen width and thickness (see 6.1, 5.1 of the 2008 edition);
--- Change the relevant content of "Sample" in the 2008 edition and include it in the "Test procedure" (see 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3, Chapter 5 of the 2008 edition and 6.1);
--- Changed the installation requirements for the aluminum foil on the inner wall of the chimney (see 6.7, 6.6 of the 2008 edition);
--- Changed the description of sample ignition (see 6.9 and 6.12, 6.8 and 6.10 of the 2008 edition);
--- Increased the number of samples for observing and recording burning drippings (see 6.11);
---Changed the letter symbols related to quality (see 7.1, 7.1 of the 2008 edition);
--- Changed the result representation (see 7.2, 7.2 of the 2008 edition);
--- Changed the content that the report should include (see Chapter 8, Chapter 8 of the 2008 edition).
1 Scope
This document describes the test method for rigid foamed plastics to determine the burning time, the height of the burning flame of the sample, and the percentage of residual mass.
This document applies to small-scale tests for evaluating the vertical burning behavior of rigid foamed plastics under laboratory conditions.
This document does not apply to materials that melt or drip during combustion.
This document is not suitable for assessing the fire hazard of materials under actual fire conditions, nor can it be used as an effective assessment of the fire hazard of materials. the only basis for.

4 Overview
Fix the sample vertically in a chimney with a glass observation window, ignite it with a Bunsen burner for 10s, and record the burning time and burning time of the sample. Flame height and residual mass percentage after combustion.
5 Instruments and equipment
5.1 Combustion device
It consists of a chimney and a sample holder whose dimensions conform to those shown in Figure 1, Figure 2, and Figure 3. The cross section of the chimney is rectangular, and the cylinder body is made of stainless steel.
The interior is lined with 0.025mm thick aluminum foil, and the front wall is a heat-resistant glass plate. The scale installed on one side of the heat-resistant glass plate is used to measure the flame height (see Figure 1 and Figure 4), the bottom of the scale is 51mm higher than the bottom of the chimney, and the division value is 10mm. The sample holder is hung on the chimney by the hook on the back Inside the channel, 3 nails on the specimen holder are used to mount the specimen.
