Scope
GB/T 8235-2019 is the English-translated version of 亚麻籽油.
GB/T 8235-2019 specifies the terms and definitions, the classification, the quality requirements, the inspection methods and rules, the labels and marking, and the packaging, storage, transport and sale of flaxseed oil.
Clause 1 applies it to flaxseed crude oil and to finished linseed oil, and states expressly that the quality indexes for flaxseed crude oil apply only to trade in crude oil.
Clause 3 defines flax oil as the oil made from flaxseed and defines the crude oil as that obtained from flaxseed by pressing or leaching which meets the crude oil quality indexes of the standard and the national food safety standards, and the foreword notes that a definition of finished linseed oil was added as 3.3.
The structure follows the scope: clause 4 carries the classification, clause 5 the quality requirements in its subclauses 5.1 and 5.2, and the later clauses the labelling, packaging, storage, transport and sales provisions, among which the requirements on sales in 9.4 are new.
Clause 2 lists a long set of normative references that supply the test methods and presentation rules, including GB/T 5524 to GB/T 5534 on the transparency, odour and taste, specific gravity, refractive index, iodine value and saponification value of animal and vegetable oils, GB/T 5009.37 and GB 5009.168, GB 5009.229 and GB 5009.236 on hygienic analysis, fatty acids, acid value and moisture and volatiles, GB/T 5490 on grain and oil inspection, GB/T 15688 on insoluble impurities, GB 7718 and GB 28050 on prepackaged food labelling and nutrition labelling, GB/T 191 on packaging storage and transport markings, and GB/T 17374 and GB/T 30354 on sales packaging and bulk transport of edible vegetable oil.
The foreword records the changes made to the 2008 edition, which revised the scope, part of the normative references, some terms and definitions, the classification and the quality requirements, removed a long list of former definitions and added the sales requirements.
The standard was proposed by the National Grain and Material Reserve Bureau and is administered by the national technical committee on grain and oil standardization (SAC/TC 270), with the Oil Crops Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences among the drafting organizations.
It replaces GB/T 8235-2008, was issued on June 4, 2019 and has applied since January 1, 2020.
