GB/T 39969-2021 is the English-translated version of 建筑用通风百叶窗通风及防雨性能检测方法.
GB/T 39969-2021 is the Chinese national laboratory method for measuring how well building ventilation louvers let air through and keep rain out. It defines the terms and symbols used, such as louver free area, core area and the air velocities through them, and sets out the test principle, the test equipment and the test piece.
It then describes the ventilation performance test, the static rainproof test and the dynamic rainproof test, followed by the content of the test report, with a normative annex on verifying the baffle and an informative example of test data.
The method covers the louver test piece itself and does not deal with the connection between the louver and the building envelope. It was issued on 30 April 2021 and has applied since 1 November 2021.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, symbols, testing principles, and testing equipment for the testing methods for ventilation and rainproof performance of ventilation shutters for buildings.
Equipment, test pieces, ventilation performance testing, static rainproof performance testing, dynamic rainproof performance testing and testing reports.
This standard applies to laboratory testing methods for ventilation and rainproof performance of ventilation shutters for buildings. The detection object is limited to building ventilation The blind test piece itself does not involve the connection between the building ventilation blind and the enclosure structure.

3.1 Ventilation shutters

3.2 Louver free area
The smallest area where air passes through the blinds. [GB/T 39968-2021, definition 3.9]
3.3 Ventilation zone flow rate
The speed of airflow through the louvered ventilation area. [GB/T 39968-2021, definition 3.12]
3.4 Louver core area
The area enclosed by the inner edge of the louver window frame. [GB/T 39968-2021, definition 3.8]
3.5 Core area flow velocity
The speed of airflow through the core area of the blinds.
Note: The velocity in the core area is the air flow through the louver divided by the area of the louver core.
