Scope
GB/T 36700.7-2018 is the English-translated version of 化学品 水生环境危害分类指导 第7部分:金属和金属化合物分类.
GB/T 36700.7-2018 is Part 7 of the Chinese guidance on classifying chemicals for their hazard to the aquatic environment, dealing with metals and metal compounds.
It explains how aquatic toxicity data and solubility data are used when a metal or a metal compound is classified, and how the classification criteria apply to them.
Its basic principles explain why metals are special: a metal in its elemental state is insoluble but can react with water or a dilute electrolyte to form soluble ions, while simple compounds such as oxides and sulfides are already oxidized and release their available form by dissolution.
It relies on Part 3 on aquatic toxicity and Part 8 on transformation and dissolution in aqueous media, and it does not apply to organometallic compounds. It was issued on 17 September 2018 and has applied since 1 April 2019.

Foreword
GB/T 36700 "Chemical Aquatic Environmental Hazard Classification Guidance" is divided into the following eight parts.
--- Part 1. Introduction;
--- Part 2. Unified classification method;
---Part 3. Aquatic toxicity;
--- Part 4. Degradation;
--- Part 5. Bioconcentration;
--- Part 6. Quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR);
--- Part 7. Classification of metals and metal compounds;
--- Part 8. Guidance for the conversion/dissolution of metals and metal compounds in aqueous media.
This part is the seventh part of GB/T 36700.
This part is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 36700 specifies the aquatic toxicity data for the classification of metals and metal compounds in the classification of chemical aquatic environmental hazards. and the application of solubility data in classification and the application of classification criteria for metals and metal compounds.
This section applies to the guidance on the classification of metals and metal compounds in the classification of chemical aquatic environmental hazards. This section does not apply to organometallic compounds.

4 Basic principles
4.1 Particularity of classification of metals and metal compounds
4.1.1 When the metal is in the elemental state, it is insoluble in water but can be converted into a usable state. When the metal is in the elemental state, it can be mixed with water or a dilute aqueous electrolyte solution reacts to form soluble ions, and the metal is oxidized from neutral or zero valence to a higher valence state.
4.1.2 In simple metal compounds (such as oxides or sulfides), the metal is already in an oxidized state, and when it is dissolved in water, the metal further the possibility of being oxidized is low, but the reaction with the medium may produce more dissolved state. Insoluble metal compounds can be regarded as a product that dissolves and can produce a small amount of available form by dissolution. The final dissolved concentration is affected by many factors, including the dissolution product of certain metal compounds precipitated during the conversion/dissolution test.
