Foreword

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part

1.Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting is required. This document replaces GB/T 30685-2014 "Technical requirements for upright road transport of gas cylinders". Compared with GB/T 30685-2014, In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows: The definition of "cluster device" has been changed (see 3.1,

3.1 of the.2014 edition);

a) Added the definition of "small volume gas cylinder" (see 3.4);

b) The requirement that upright road transport of gas cylinders should comply with national laws, regulations and standards has been deleted (see

4.1 of the.2014 edition);

c) The general requirements for gas cylinders have been changed (see 4.1, 4.3, 4.4, Chapter 4 of the.2014 edition);

d) Added the requirement for affixing warning labels to gas cylinders (see 4.2);

e) Added the types of medium filled in gas cylinders that should be transported upright (see 4.3);

f) Added the requirements for the transportation of gas cylinders that meet the exemption conditions (see 4.4);

g) The classification of transport loading methods has been changed to limit the clustering device to a vertical clustering device (see 5.1,

5.1 of the.2014 edition);

h) The requirement that the size of the clustering device should be compatible with the size of the grouping cylinders has been deleted (see

5.2.3 of the.2014 edition);

1 Scope

GB/T 30685-2024 sets the Chinese technical requirements for transporting gas cylinders upright by road. Upright carriage is required for cylinders whose valve or contents demand it, liquefied gases above all, and it creates a specific hazard: a tall cylinder standing on a moving vehicle has a high centre of gravity, and if the restraint fails it becomes a projectile with a valve that can be sheared off. The standard sets the requirements on the vehicle and its body, the racking and the restraint system with the load cases it must withstand, the separation and segregation of incompatible gases, the valve protection and the caps, the loading and unloading procedure, the securing and its inspection before departure, the marking and placarding of the vehicle, the documentation, the requirements on the driver and escort and their training, and the emergency provisions carried. It took effect on 1 October 2024.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Cylinder bundle A centralized gas supply device consisting of two or more gas cylinders combined by a metal structural frame and connected by a bus.

3.2 Cylinder pallet; cylinder basket A frame structure device that can hold multiple gas cylinders, usually with one side open, and gas cylinders can be loaded and unloaded one by one, making it easy to transport.
