Scope

GB/T 25649-2010 is the English-translated version of 道路施工与养护机械设备 稀浆封层机.

China's national standard for slurry seal machines. It specifies the terms and definitions, the types and basic parameters, the technical requirements, the test methods and the inspection rules for slurry seal and micro-surfacing machines. A slurry seal is a thin surface treatment rather than a pavement layer: a mixture of graded aggregate, bitumen emulsion, water, cement and additives is mixed on the machine and spread through a box a few millimetres thick over an existing road. It does not add structural strength, and that is not what it is for. It seals the surface against water, restores the skid resistance and the texture, fills minor cracks and ravelling, and adds ten years to a pavement that would otherwise deteriorate - at a fraction of the cost of an asphalt overlay and with the road reopened within an hour. Preventive maintenance of this kind is the cheapest thing a road authority can do, and the machine is what makes it possible. It is a continuous mixing plant on wheels: the aggregate, emulsion, water, cement and additive are metered from their own hoppers and tanks into a pugmill, mixed for a few seconds, and discharged straight into the spreader box, so the mixture is made and laid within seconds of each other. That is necessary because the emulsion breaks - the bitumen separates from the water - within minutes of contact with the aggregate and cement, and a mixture that breaks before it is spread is scrap. So the standard specifies the metering of each component and the proportioning control between them, the mixer, the spreader box and the finish it produces, the calibration, and the output and travel speed relationship that determines the application rate. Issued on 1 December 2010 and in force since 1 March 2011.

1 Scope

This standard specifies the road construction and maintenance machinery and equipment slurry seal machine (hereinafter referred to as seal coat machine) terms and definitions, classifications, to Requirements, test methods, inspection rules, signs, instructions, packaging, transport and storage. This standard applies to self-propelled slurry seal machine.
