Foreword

This document was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020, Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of standardizing documents.

This document replaces GB/T 17038-1997, Railroad diesel engine oils. Compared with GB/T 17038-1997, apart from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

a) two product varieties, fifth-generation zinc-containing and fifth-generation zinc-free, have been added (see Table 1);

b) GB/T 30515 has been added as a test method for kinematic viscosity (see Table 1);

c) GB/T 1995 has been added as a test method for viscosity index (see Table 1);

d) the test method for base number has been changed from GB/T 7304 to SH/T 0251 (see Table 1; Table 1 of the 1997 edition);

e) the item "sediment" has been changed to "mechanical impurities", with GB/T 511 as the test method (see Table 1; Table 1 of the 1997 edition);

f) GB/T 17476 and NB/SH/T 0824 have been added as test methods for calcium content and zinc content (see Table 1);

g) a technical requirement for zinc content has been added for fourth-generation zinc-free products (see Table 1);

h) the "high-temperature friction and wear test (method B)" has been deleted (see Table 1 of the 1997 edition);

i) the item "anti-wear properties (four-ball method)" has been added, with NB/SH/T 0189 as the test method (see Table 1);

j) the "Sequence VIII engine test" has been added as an optional alternative to the "L-38 engine test", with SH/T 0788 as the test method (see Table 1);

k) the "Caterpillar 1M-PC test" has been added as an optional alternative to the "high-temperature detergency and anti-wear test (Caterpillar 1G2 method)", with SH/T 0786 as the test method (see Table 1);

l) the inspection rules have been changed (see Clause 6; Table 1 of the 1997 edition).
