Scope

GB/T 15551-2016 is the English-translated version of 蚕桑丝织物.

China's national product standard for mulberry silk fabrics - the woven fabrics made from the filament of the domesticated silkworm, whether pure silk or silk interwoven with another yarn. It specifies the requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules, and the packaging and marking, and it applies to the quality assessment of dyed, printed and yarn-dyed pure silk fabrics and of silk fabrics interwoven with other yarns. Silk is sold on properties that a buyer cannot verify by looking at the cloth, and the standard exists to make those properties contractual. The requirements cover the physical characteristics - the mass per unit area and the width and their tolerances, the yarn count, the density of warp and weft, the breaking strength - and the properties that decide whether the finished garment survives its first season: the dimensional change on washing or dry cleaning, the colour fastness to light and to perspiration and to rubbing and to washing, and the resistance to seam slippage, which is the characteristic defect of a loosely woven silk. Appearance defects are graded, because silk is a natural filament and a fabric entirely without faults does not exist at a commercial price; what the standard fixes is how many faults of what kind are tolerable in each grade, and how they are counted over a defined length. The inspection rules set the lot, the sampling and the rules for acceptance, so that a dispute between a mill and a buyer is settled on a defined procedure rather than on an argument about the goods. Issued on 25 April 2016 and in force since 1 November 2016, it replaces GB/T 15551-2007.

This standard is GB/T 15551-2007 "silk fabric" revision, compared with GB/T 15551-2007, the main changes are as follows: - Removed the "applicable to the quality of the white silk fabric" (see Chapter 1 of the.2007 edition); - Third grade items have been removed from the classification requirements (see

3.3 of the.2007 edition);

--- increase the tear strength, resistance to dry cleaning, saliva resistance, heat and pressure color fastness assessment items, and determine the level of indicators (see 3.5);

--- Adjust the resistance to dry friction, moisture resistance, light fastness indicators (see 3.5,.2007 version of 3.5);

--- dark to greater than GB/T 4841.3 1/12 dye color standard depth of color card, light to less than GB/T 4841.3 1/12 dye color standard depth card (see 3.5,.2007 version 3.5);

--- the packaging, the logo to FZ/T 40007 implementation (see Chapter 6,.2007 edition of Chapter 6, Chapter 7); - Appendix A has been deleted (see Appendix A of the.2007 edition).
