Scope

GB 40070-2021 is the English-translated version of 儿童青少年学习用品近视防控卫生要求.

GB 40070-2021 specifies hygienic requirements, aimed at myopia prevention and control, for the study products used by children and adolescents: textbooks, teaching supplementary materials and learning magazines, exercise books, examination papers, learning newspapers, books for learning in preschool children, general classroom luminaires, reading and writing desk lamps and teaching multimedia products.

It applies to such products when produced, marketed or provided by enterprises, schools, kindergartens and off-campus training institutions, but not to luminaires for special classrooms and public teaching rooms.

For printed matter it sets paper grammage and D65 brightness (55.0 % to 85.0 %), solid printing density by colour and paper type, register error (0.30 mm), minimum type sizes graded by school year (16P for grades 1-2 down to 12P from grade 5), line spacing and the grid dimensions of exercise books; for classroom luminaires it requires compulsory certification, a correlated colour temperature of 3 300 K to 5 300 K, a colour rendering index Ra of at least 80, blue light hazard risk groups and limits on light output modulation depth, with further requirements for desk lamps and multimedia.

Normative annexes give the test methods for paper, printing quality, grid lines, type size and line space, for learning newspapers, for classroom luminaires and desk lamps, and for teaching multimedia products.
