Scope
GB 38453-2019 is the English-translated version of 防护服装 隔热服.
GB 38453-2019 specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging and storage of protective clothing against heat, worn by workers to avoid injury from contact, convective and radiant heat from high-temperature objects and heat sources; firefighting clothing and clothing for molten metal and welding are excluded.
Woven, knitted and leather fabrics must meet limits on formaldehyde (<= 75 mg/kg in contact with skin, <= 300 mg/kg otherwise), pH 4.0 to 9.0, banned azo dyes, colour fastness of at least grade 3-4, dimensional change and strength (breaking strength >= 300 N and tear strength >= 15 N for woven fabrics, bursting strength >= 100 kPa for knits, tensile strength >= 60 N/mm2 and fat content <= 15% for leather).
All materials must pass heat stability tests at 180 °C or 260 °C and the class B flame retardancy of GB 8965.1, and the fabric must reach at least one heat insulation class: convective B1 to B3 (CHTI 24 from 4 s to 20 s and above), radiant C1 to C4 (RHTI 24 from 7 s to 95 s and above) or contact F1 to F3 (threshold time from 5 s to 15 s and above), stated on the marking.
Garment requirements cover full coverage of trunk, neck, arms and legs, a 20 cm jacket overlap on two-piece suits, quick-release fastenings, covered plackets and flapped pockets, sizes to GB/T 13640, and normative annexes give the convective, radiant and contact heat transmission test methods.
