Scope
GB 18435-2007 is the English-translated version of 潜水呼吸气体及检测方法.
GB 18435-2007 specifies the purity requirements for compressed air for diving breathing and for the oxygen, nitrogen and helium used to prepare diving breathing gases, the maximum allowable values of the main contaminants in the environmental gas of saturation diving chambers, and the methods for determining all of them.
It applies to air diving, mixed-gas diving and saturation diving, and to the design, manufacture and maintenance of diving systems, equipment and apparatus related to breathing gases.
Table 1 sets limits for compressed air (oxygen 20% to 22%, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, dew point, oil mist and particulates, odour), oxygen, nitrogen and two classes of helium, class A for heliox diving to 300 m and class B beyond 300 m; Table 2 sets chamber limits for carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ammonia, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen dioxide, methane, acetone and benzene.
The test methods include copper-ammonia absorption and oxygen analysers, the dew-point method, gas chromatography and infrared analysers, spectrophotometric methods and a membrane filter weighing method for oil mist (normative Annex C); Annex A explains control of contaminants by partial pressure with depth.
Clause 3 is mandatory and the rest recommendatory. It supersedes GB 18435-2001, adding the determination methods; issued on 24 January 2007, in force since 1 August 2007.
