GB 18352.6-2016 is the English-translated version of 轻型汽车污染物排放限值及测量方法(中国第六阶段).
This standard applies to light-duty vehicles (including hybrid electric vehicles) powered by ignition engines or compression-ignition engines with a maximum design speed of 50 km/h or more. It specifies the emission limits and measurement methods for exhaust emissions at normal and low temperature, real driving emission (RDE) exhaust emissions, crankcase pollutants, evaporative emissions and refueling pollutants, as well as the technical requirements and measurement methods for pollutant control device durability and on-board diagnostics (OBD) systems.

Foreword
In order to implement the “Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China” and the “Law of the People's Republic of China on Prevention and Control of Atmospheric Pollution”, to prevent and control the pollution of motor vehicles and improve the quality of the ambient air, this standard is hereby formulated.
This standard specifies the requirements for the CHINA 6 type inspection requirements, the consistency of production, and the inspection and determination methods for conformity of emissions from light-duty vehicles. Manufacturers are obliged to ensure that the vehicles they produce and sell meet the requirements for in-use conformance of this standard.
Compared with GB 18352.5-2013 “Limits and measurement methods for emissions from light-duty vehicles (CHINA 5)”, the main changes in this standard include:
- CHANGE the type I test cycle, TIGHTEN the pollutant emission limits, ADD the measurement requirements for the number of particulate emissions from gasoline vehicles;
- DESIGNATE the real driving emission (RDE) test as type II test;
- TIGHTEN the Type VI test items and limits;
monitoring conditions for on-board diagnostic systems;
diagnostic systems and vehicle maintenance and repair information;
- REVISE the technical requirements for test fuels;
- ADD requirements for control of pollutants in the refueling process;
- ADD test requirements for hybrid electric vehicles.
This part of the standard modifies and uses European Union (EC) No 715/2007 “Regulations on Type Approval of Pollutants Emitted by Light Passenger Vehicles and Commercial Vehicles and Regulations on Obtaining Maintenance and Repair Information for Vehicles”, (EC) No 692/2008 “Regulations on (EC) the Implementation and Revision of (EC) No 715/2007 Regulations on Type Approval of Pollutants Emitted by Light Passenger Vehicles and Commercial Vehicles and Regulations on Obtaining Maintenance and Repair Information for Vehicles”, European Union Economic Commission Regulation ECER 83-07 “Unified Provisions on Approving Vehicles by Pollutant Emission in accordance with Engine Fuel Requirements”, and the relevant technical content of the European Union Economic Commission “Technical Regulations on the World Light-duty vehicle Testing Procedures (WLTP)” (GTR15) and its revisions.
Compared with the EU regulations, the main revisions of this standard mainly include:
- MODIFY the test procedure for type I tests, USE the light-vehicle test procedures (WLTP);
- CHANGE the type II test into RDE test. The original type II test is performed
- MODIFY the original type IV test;
- For the type VI tests, ADD the control requirements for diesel vehicles and NOx;
- ADD testing requirements for contaminants during refueling process;
- TIGHTEN the emission limits of various pollutants;
- ADD the test requirements for the effective volume and initial working capacity of the canister;
- ADD the test requirements for catalytic converter carrier volume, total precious metal content and precious metal ratio;
inspections, ADD the requirements for production consistency check of catalytic converters and canisters;
- For the in-use conformance, ADD the inspection requirements for evaporative emissions and pollutant emissions during refueling;
- MODIFY the technical requirements of OBD;
- MODIFY the technical requirements for the test reference fuel.
The OBD part of this standard modifies and uses the technical contents of Section 1968.2 “Fault and Diagnostic System Requirements - Passenger Vehicles, Light Trucks, and Mid-size Vehicles and Engines of the 2004 and Later Years” of the California CCRTitle13 Regulations and its revisions.
- MODIFY and USE the OBDII related technical requirements;
- MODIFY and USE the relevant requirements for obtaining vehicle on-board diagnostic systems and vehicle maintenance and repair information;
- MODIFY and USE the evaporation test related technical requirements.
Appendix A, Appendix C ~ R of this standard are normative, Appendix B is informative.
This standard is formulated under the organization of the Ministry of Environmental Protection Atmospheric Environmental Management Department, and Science and Technology Standard Department.

This standard was approved by the Ministry of Environmental Protection on November 24, 2016.
From the date of publication of this standard, type inspection can be carried out according to this standard. From July 1, 2020, all light-duty vehicles sold and registered shall meet the requirements of this standard.
From July 1, 2020, this standard replaces " Limits and measurement methods for emissions from light-duty vehicles (CHINA 5)" (GB 18352.5-2013). Before July 1, 2025, "in-use conformity inspection" of the fifth stage of light-duty vehicles shall still implement the relevant requirements of GB 18352.5-2013.
This standard shall be interpreted by the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
1 Scope
This standard applies to light-duty vehicles (including hybrid electric vehicles) powered by ignition engines or compression-ignition engines with a maximum design speed of 50 km/h or more.
This standard specifies the emission limits and measurement methods for exhaust emissions at normal temperature and low temperature, real driving emission (RDE) exhaust emissions, crankcase pollutants, evaporative emissions, and refueling pollutants, as well as the technical requirements and measurement methods for the pollutant control device durability and on-board diagnostics (OBD) systems of light-duty vehicles which are equipped with ignition type engine.
This standard specifies the emission limits and measurement methods for exhaust emissions at normal temperature and low temperature, real driving emission (RDE) exhaust emissions, crankcase pollutants, as well as the technical requirements and measurement methods for the pollutant control device durability and on-board diagnostics (OBD) systems of light-duty vehicles which are equipped with compression-ignition type engine.
This standard specifies the requirements and confirmation of light-duty vehicle type inspection, production conformance and in-use conformity inspection and determination methods.
This standard also specifies special requirements for the light-duty vehicles which use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or natural gas (NG).
This standard also specifies the type inspection procedures for pollutant emissions of the alternative pollutant control devices which are used as an independent technology assembly and proposed to be installed on light-duty vehicles.
This standard also specifies the technical requirements for vehicles that use reactants in exhaust aftertreatment systems, as well as the emission test procedures for vehicles that are equipped with periodic regenerative systems.
Under the requirements of production companies, category M1, M2 and N2 vehicles with a maximum design total mass of more than 3500 kg and not more than 4500 kg can be subject to type inspection in accordance with this standard.
This standard does not apply to vehicles that have passed the CHINA 6 type inspection in accordance with the provisions of GB 17691.
The use of vehicles whose fuel types are not contained in Appendix K may be implemented with reference to the relevant provisions of this standard.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this standard. The category M1, M2, and N1 vehicles with a maximum design total mass of no more than 3500 kg. Category M1 vehicle refers to a passenger vehicle that includes no more than nine seats including a driver's seat. Category M2 vehicle refers to a passenger vehicle that includes more than nine seats including a driver's seat, and a maximum design mass of no more than 5000 kg. Category N1 vehicle refers to a goods vehicle with a maximum design total mass not exceeding 3500 kg. Category N2 vehicle refers to a goods vehicle that has a maximum design total mass of more than 3500kg but does not exceed 12000 kg. The category M1 vehicles that have no more than six seats, including driver’s seat, and a maximum design total mass not more than 2500 kg. […]

Vehicle manufacturers shall disclose the relevant pollution control and inspection information in Appendix A and Appendix B. If the relevant contents concern to the company's confidential information, they may be disclosed after technical processing.
5 Type inspection
5.1 General requirements
5.1.1 Components affecting exhaust emissions, real driving emissions, crankcase pollutants, evaporative emissions and refueling emissions, durability of pollution control devices, and OBD systems shall be designed, manufactured, and assembled to meet the requirements of this standard under the normal conditions of use regardless of the type of vibration encountered. emissions within the limits specified in this standard under normal use conditions and normal life span. This also includes hoses and their joints used in emission control systems, as well as the reliability of individual wiring, which shall be manufactured to meet their original design requirements. 6 Type inspection extension
For the vehicles that have been type-tested in accordance with this standard, the results can be extended to other vehicle models that meet the following requirements. Vehicle models that have passed type inspection are reference models (evaporative or refueling emissions tests are based on the worst performing models, for example, for the vehicle models with the largest fuel tank capacity relative to the working capacity of the canister, if this ratio is same, it shall select the vehicle models having the minimum desorption amount), the other models are extended models. The extended models and reference models meeting the requirements of 6.1 and 6.2 belong to the same exhaust emission system family; the extended models and reference models meeting the requirements of 6.3 belong to the same evaporative emission system family; the extended models and reference models meeting the requirements of 6.4 belong to the same OBD family; […]

7 Production consistency
The manufacturer shall establish a production consistency assurance plan and implement it in accordance with 7.1. The competent department of environmental protection shall, on the basis of the technical contents described in Appendix A and Appendix B, select new production vehicles to carry out some or all of the tests described in 5.3 and 5.4. The selection of vehicles and the determination of inspection results shall be performed in accordance with 7.2 to 7.10. If a certain vehicle model cannot meet any requirement of the production consistency inspection, it is determined that the model does not meet the requirements of this standard. OBD production consistency assurance shall also meet the requirements of Appendix JA.7.

8 In-use conformity
8.1 For vehicle models that have passed the pollutant emission type inspection, the manufacturer shall take appropriate measures to ensure the in-use conformity. In-use conformity inspection requirements are as shown in Appendix O. 8.3 The in-use conformity inspection shall cover the useful life span of all vehicles. The manufacturer shall conduct at least the in-use conformity selfinspection at least once a year, ensure that the requirements for selfexamination of vehicles with low mileage (10000 - 60000 km), medium mileage (60000 - 110000 km) and high mileage (110000 - 160000 km) are completed within 8 years. 9 Implementation of standard
9.1 Type inspection
From the date of issuance of this standard, type inspections can be conducted in accordance with this standard.
9.3 Production consistency inspection
For light-duty vehicles that have been type-tested in accordance with this standard, their production consistency inspection shall meet the requirements of this standard.
9.4 In-use conformity inspection
For light-duty vehicles manufactured, sold and registered in accordance with the requirements of this standard, the in-use conformity inspection shall meet the requirements of this standard.
Appendix A Type inspection material
When applying for type inspections, the following materials including the contents and catalogue shall be provided in electronic documents.
In any sketch, the details shall be adequately stated in an appropriate proportion; its size is A4, or it is folded to that size. If there are photos, their details shall be displayed. If the system, component or independent technology assembly is controlled by a microprocessor, its performance data shall be provided.
