Scope

GB 12983-2004 is the English-translated version of 国旗颜色标准样品.

GB 12983-2004 specifies the technical requirements for the dimensions and chromaticity of the colour standard samples for the national flag made of chemical fibre fabrics (excluding man-made fibres), silk and cotton cloth, and applies to the production of these samples.

The samples measure 300 × 200 mm with a positive tolerance of 2.5%; for each material the red and the yellow are fixed by the tristimulus value Y10 and the chromaticity coordinates x10, y10 under illuminant D65 and the CIE 1964 observer, with a permissible colour difference of DeltaE*ab <= 2.0, and the white of the flagpole sleeve shall have Y10 not lower than 78.

Chromaticity is measured and expressed according to GB/T 3977 and colour differences are calculated with the CIELAB formula of GB/T 3979; samples held by manufacturers and supervisory departments are valid for two years and must then be re-verified, and they are stored sealed, dry and protected from light.

It replaces GB 12983-1991, revising the permissible chromaticity deviations; all its technical contents are mandatory. Issued on 16 January 2004 and in force since 1 July 2004.

From the date of its implementation, this standard replaces GB 12983-1991.
