Scope
GB 12982-2004 is the English-translated version of 国旗.
GB 12982-2004 specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, labelling and packaging of the national flag of the People's Republic of China.
It applies to flags made of chemical fibre fabrics (excluding man-made fibres) or silk, and also to cotton, wool and linen flags, while paper and plastic flags should follow it for appearance quality.
It fixes the dimensions and tolerances of the standard sizes No. 1 to No. 5 (from 2 880 × 1 920 mm down to 960 × 640 mm) and of the car, signing and desk flags, the colours referred to the GB 12983 standard samples with a colour difference not lower than grade 3-4 on the GB/T 250 grey scale, colour fastness to light, weathering and washing, sewing with 34 to 42 stitches per 100 mm and the appearance assessment; test methods refer to GB/T 17392, GB/T 8427, GB/T 8430 and GB/T 3921, and Annex A reproduces the 1949 explanation of the method of making the flag.
It replaces GB 12982-1996, adding GB/T 17392 as a normative reference and revising part of the colour fastness and sewing requirements; all its technical contents are mandatory.

All technical contents of this standard are mandatory.
In this revision, the normative referenced document GB/T 17392 Fabrics for national flag has been added, and part of the technical requirements for the colour fastness of the national flag and for the sewing of the national flag have been revised.
From the date of its implementation, this standard replaces GB 12982-1996.
Annex A and Annex B of this standard are normative annexes.
This standard was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of the Standardization Administration of China.
This standard was drafted by the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, with the participation of Beijing Institute of Clothing Technology.
