Scope
GB/Z 18620.4-2008 is the English-translated version of 圆柱齿轮 检验实施规范 第4部分:表面结构和轮齿接触斑点的检验.
GB/Z 18620.4-2008, Part 4 of the Chinese code of inspection practice for cylindrical gears and identical to ISO/TR 10064-4:1998, gives recommendations for checking the surface texture of gear tooth flanks and the tooth contact pattern.
It covers functional considerations, the data to be shown on drawings, measuring instruments, the measurement of tooth flank roughness and the inspection of contact patterns, with an informative annex on controlling contact along the face width.
The values it gives are not strict accuracy criteria but a commonly agreed guide for steel and iron gears. Gear manufacturers and inspectors use it together with the GB/T 10095 accuracy system. It replaces GB/Z 18620.4-2002 and was issued on 31 March 2008.

Foreword
GB /Z18620 "Cylindrical Gear Inspection Code of Practice" includes the following four parts.
--- Part 1. Inspection of the gear teeth on the same side;
--- Part 2. radial integrated deviation, radial runout, tooth thickness and backlash test;
--- Part 3. Gear billet, axis center distance and axis parallelism test;
--- Part 4. surface structure and gear tooth contact test. This part is the fourth part of GB /Z18620.
This section identical with ISO /T R10064-4..1998 "Cylindrical Gear Inspection Practices Part 4. Surface Structure and Gear Teeth Speckle Test Specified Documents "(in English).
This section is equivalent translation ISO /T R10064-4..1998. For ease of use, this section made the following editorial changes.
--- According to the Chinese habit of some layout format has been modified;
--- With the decimal point "." Instead of as a decimal point ",";
--- ISO /T R10064-4..1998 reference to other international standards, have been adopted as our standard, with our standard Instead of the corresponding international standards, has not been adopted as the equivalent of China's direct reference to international standards.
This section is the GB /Z18620.4-2002 "Cylindrical gear inspection specification Part 4. Surface structure and gear contact spot Point of inspection "of the amendment. Compared with GB /Z18620.4-2002, the main content is revised as follows.
--- Some of the terms of the text has been modified. Appendix A of this section is informative appendix.
1 Scope
This section provides recommendations on gear tooth surface roughness and gear tooth contact spot detection methods.
The numerical values provided in this section should not be used as a strict precision criterion, but as a common agreement on steel or iron gear guide to use.
