Scope

GB/T 7713.4-2025 is the English-translated version of 信息与文献 编写规则 第4部分:数据论文.

Part 4 of China's national standard on the presentation of documentation, covering data papers. A data paper is a recent and genuinely useful invention in scholarly publishing: a peer-reviewed article whose subject is a dataset rather than a finding. It describes what was collected, how, with what instruments and what quality control, and where the data can be obtained - and because it is a citable publication, it gives the people who assembled the data the credit that the academic system otherwise reserves for those who analyse it. That incentive is the whole point, because the shortage in data-intensive research is not analysis but well-documented, properly deposited data. Standardising the structure matters for the same reason a dataset needs metadata: a data paper is useful only if a reader can determine from it whether the data suit their purpose. This document specifies the components and the format of a data paper, and applies to data papers in all forms of dissemination including print, microform and electronic.

The data paper mainly describes the data reproducibility and reusability, and comprehensively, normatively and in-depth description of specific research data. Data is an emerging academic paper genre that aims to promote the standardized expression, accurate understanding, value discovery, reuse and wide dissemination of data. The specific description object, communication characteristics and communication purpose of the paper determine that its writing and arrangement are different from those of knowledge research papers. specification. GB/T 7713-1987 "Format for Writing Scientific and Technical Reports, Dissertations and Academic Papers" specifies the format for writing scientific and technical reports, dissertations and academic papers. The writing requirements and format of academic papers are uniformly stipulated. GB/T 7713 is planned to consist of 4 parts.

1.Dissertation. The purpose is to specify the format and requirements for writing a dissertation.

2.Academic Papers. The purpose is to specify the writing format and layout requirements of academic papers.

3.Scientific and technological reports. The purpose is to specify the requirements for the writing, organization and layout of scientific and technological reports.

4.Data Papers. The purpose is to specify the components, writing format and layout requirements of data papers. Given that data papers have become a new and increasingly important type of literature in the context of open science, the purpose of this document is to define data papers. The components, writing format and layout requirements of data papers mainly include the content elements and format specifications of data papers, covering but not limited to the expression of content Completeness, clarity of structure and organization, standardization of format and style, standardization of language and symbols, and standards in terms of technology and measurement units describe. This document will facilitate the writing, organization, retrieval, dissemination, citation and reuse of data papers, and better realize Research data sharing and application to promote the development of open science. The scope of application of this document takes into account the particularities of various disciplines. There are differences in data quality control, data content, data sharing, data security and ethical protection. When compiling data papers based on this document, it is advisable to take both strict Prudence and flexibility. Information and Documentation Writing Rules Part
