Scope

GB/T 42813-2023 is the English-translated version of 数据论文出版元数据.

GB/T 42813-2023 specifies the metadata for publishing data papers. A data paper is a peer-reviewed article whose subject is a dataset rather than a finding, and it exists to give the people who assemble data the citable credit that the people who analyse it already have. That only works if the paper, the dataset and the repository record can be linked and counted, which is a metadata problem: the article is in a journal system, the data is in a repository, and neither knows about the other. The standard sets the metadata description method - the definition, English name, data type, value range, short name and notes for each element - the composition of the data paper publication metadata, and the dataset metadata itself, beginning with the identifier and the title. It took effect on 6 August 2023.
