Scope

GB/T 5326-2025 is the English-translated version of 棉与涤纶混纺印染布.

China's national standard for the printed and dyed woven fabric made from blended cotton and polyester staple fibre, the workhorse cloth of shirting, uniforms, bedding and workwear. Blending the two fibres is a compromise: the cotton gives comfort and dye affinity, the polyester gives strength, dimensional stability and resistance to creasing, and the finished fabric has to be judged on properties that neither fibre alone would explain. This document defines the terms, gives the classification, and specifies the requirements, inspection rules, marking and packing of bleached, printed and dyed cotton and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blended woven fabric, while describing the corresponding test and inspection methods. It grades goods as superior, first or second on two independent axes - inherent quality assessed by lot and appearance quality assessed by roll or piece, the lower of the two setting the overall grade - and it fixes numerical limits for weft count deviation, mass per unit area deviation, fibre content deviation, breaking and tearing strength banded by fabric weight, dimensional change in washing, fuzzing and pilling, and colour fastness to light, washing, rubbing, perspiration and hot pressing. On the appearance side it fixes width deviation by width band, colour difference against reference samples and side to side and head to tail, skewness for plain and plaid patterns, a points-per-hundred-square-metres allowance for local defects, and rules on scattering defects, false cutting and combination. It is the document a mill, a converter and a garment buyer quote at each other when they argue about whether a delivered lot is first grade, and it also carries the processing coefficients that let a standard finished width and thread count be worked back from the grey fabric specification. The 2025 edition is the third revision, replacing GB/T 5326-2009: it adds mass per unit area deviation and fuzzing and pilling to the inherent quality table, revises the criteria for weft count, fibre content, strength, dimensional change and colour fastness, and drops the old scoring rules for local defects in favour of the method in GB/T 17760-2019.

This document is drafted in accordance with the rules given in the GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of standardizing documents.

This document replaces the GB/T 5326-2009 Combed printed or dyed polyester/cotton blended fabrics. In addition to structural adjustments and a number of editorial changes, the following technical deviations have been made with respect to the GB/T 5326-2009.

Revised the scope (see Clause 1, Clause 1 of the 2009 edition).

Added the evaluation items of deviation rate of mass per unit area and fuzzing and pilling in inherent quality (see Table 1, Table 1 of the 2009 edition).

Revised the evaluation criteria for weft count deviation rate, fibre content deviation, breaking strength, tear strength, dimensional change in washing, and color fastness (see Table 1, Table 1 of the 2009 edition).

Revised the evaluation criteria for width deviation, color difference, skewness, and local defects in appearance quality (see Table 2, Table 2 and Table 4 of the 2009 edition).

Deleted the scoring rules for local defects, the scoring explanation of local defects, and the requirements that defects are not allowed in superior products (see subclause 5.3.2, 5.3.3, 5.3.5 of the 2009 edition).

Revised the washing procedure in the test method for dimensional change in washing (see subclause 6.6, Subclause 6.1.5 of the 2009 edition).

Deleted the inspection conditions and methods for appearance quality (see subcluase 6.2 of the 2009 edition).

1 Scope

This document is applicable to various types of bleached, printed and dyed cotton / polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blended woven fabric which is produced with cotton / polyethylene terephthalate (PET) staple fibres as raw material.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 411 apply.

4 Classification

Printed and dyed cotton / polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blended fabric is classified by product variety and specification, which are determined on the base of sales contract between both parties. See Annex A for the processing coefficient of printed and dyed cotton / polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blended fabric.

5.1 Grading rules

5.1.1 Products is classified into superior grade, first grade and second grade. Products failing to comply with the requirements of the second grade are regarded as unqualified products.

5.1.2 The product quality includes inherent quality and appearance quality. The inherent quality is evaluated by lot, while the appearance quality is evaluated by roll (piece). Take the lowest grade in inherent quality and appearance quality as the overall grade.

5.2 Inherent quality

5.2.1 The products shall comply with the provisions in GB 18401 or GB 31701.

5.2.2 The grading requirements for inherent quality are specified in Table 1.

Table 1 sets, for superior, first and second grade respectively: deviation rate of weft count -2.0 to +2.0 %, -3.0 to +3.0 % and -4.0 to +4.0 %; deviation rate of mass per unit area -5.0 to +5.0 % for all grades; deviation of fibre content in accordance with GB/T 29862. Breaking strength, in newtons and common to all grades, is not less than 260 N warp and 220 N weft for fabrics above 100 g/m2 and not more than 150 g/m2, not less than 360 N warp and 260 N weft for fabrics above 150 g/m2 and not more than 200 g/m2, and not less than 610 N warp and 360 N weft for fabrics above 200 g/m2. Tearing strength, likewise common to all grades, is not less than 7.2 N warp and 7.0 N weft, 13.2 N warp and 11.2 N weft, and 17.2 N warp and 15.2 N weft over the same three weight bands. Dimensional change in washing: -2.0 to +1.0 %, -3.0 to +1.0 % and -4.0 to +1.5 %. Fuzzing and pilling: not less than grade 4, 3-4 and 3. Colour fastness in grades: to light 4, 3 and 3; to washing, colour change 4, 3-4 and 3 and staining 4, 3-4 and 3; to rubbing, dry staining 4, 3-4 and 3 and wet staining 3-4, 3 and 2-3; to perspiration, colour change 4, 3-4 and 3 and staining 4, 3-4 and 3; to hot pressing, colour change 4, 4 and 3-4 and staining 4, 3-4 and 3.

NOTE 1 m represents the nominal value of mass per unit area.

NOTE 2 The grading requirements for breaking strength and tearing strength of fabrics with mass per unit of 100 g/m2 and below are negotiated and agreed upon by sales contract between both parties.

NOTE 3 Special requirements for colorfastness to light are negotiated and agreed upon by sales contract between both parties.

The requirements of color fastness to wet rubbing of first-grade products in dark color may be reduced by half a grade. The color depth is determined according to the requirements in GB/T 4841.3. The colors deeper than color card of standard depth for dyeing with dyestuffs 1/12 are considered as the dark color and the other colors are considered as the light colors.

5.3.1 Appearance quality requirements

The grading requirements for appearance quality are specified in Table 2.

Table 2 sets, for superior, first and second grade respectively: width deviation for standard width not more than 140 cm -1.0 to +2.0 cm, -1.5 to +2.5 cm and -2.0 to +3.0 cm; for width above 140 cm and not more than 240 cm -1.5 to +2.5 cm, -2.0 to +3.0 cm and -2.5 to +3.5 cm; for width above 240 cm -2.5 to +3.5 cm, -3.0 to +4.0 cm and -3.5 to +4.5 cm. Colour difference against a reference sample of the same kind is not less than grade 4-5, 4 and 3-4 for bleached and dyed fabric and not less than grade 4, 3-4 and 3 for printed fabric, and against other reference samples not less than grade 4, 3-4 and 3. Side-to-side colour difference is not less than grade 4-5, 4 and 3-4 for bleached and dyed fabric and not less than grade 4, 3-4 and 3-4 for printed fabric; head-to-tail not less than grade 4, 4 and 3-4. Skewness: pattern skewness or skewness not more than 2.5 %, 3.0 % and 4.0 %; plaid pattern skewness or plaid skewness not more than 2.0 %, 2.5 % and 3.5 %. Local defects: not more than 18, 28 and 40 points per 100 square metres. Scattering defects - wrong pattern and uneven dyeing, stripes, and cotton nep and impurities with light and dark specks - must not affect appearance for superior and first grade, while for second grade they may affect appearance.

If the pattern doesn't accord, the client's confirmed sample shall prevail. The defects of printed fabric shall be evaluated on the base of the overall effect.

NOTE 1 W represents standard width.

NOTE 2 The same kind represents that the reference sample is the same as the products in specification, weave, etc., while others represents that the reference sample may be different from the products in specification, weave, etc.

The requirements of side-to-side color difference reduced by half a grade for products over 240 cm in width is permissible. Skewness evaluation is based on the more critical one between pattern skewness and skewness, or between plaid pattern skewness and plaid skewness. The requirements of skewness increased by 0.5 % for products over 240 cm in width is permissible.

5.3.2 Allowable total score of local defects per roll (piece)

The allowable total score of local defects per roll (piece) is calculated according to Formula (1) and rounded off to integer according to the requirements in GB/T 8170.

In Formula (1), A is the allowable total score of local defects per roll (piece) expressed in points; a is the allowable score of local defects expressed in points per hundred square meters (points/100 m2); L is the roll (piece) length expressed in meters (m); and W is the standard width expressed in meters (m).

5.3.3 Requirements of false cutting and combination

5.3.3.1 False cutting shall not exist in superior-grade products.

5.3.3.2 The defects of false cutting shall be rated as 4 points defects or 3 points critical defects. Each section of the fabric shall be the first grade product after false cutting.

5.3.3.3 Fabric false cutting or combination is permissible only if the client consents. Within 5 meters from the fabric ends and for fabrics less than 30 meters in length, false cutting shall not be made. The minimum piece length for combination is no less than 10 meters. False cutting shall not exceed 2 places per 60 meters, and for each additional 30 meters in length, one more place of false cutting may be allowed.

5.3.3.4 The total rate of both false cutting and combination shall not exceed 20 %, of which the rate of combination shall not exceed 10 %.

5.3.3.5 The position of any false cutting shall be marked, with a piece length record sheet of false cutting attached.

6 Test and inspection methods

6.1 The weft count is tested according to the requirements in GB/T 4668. The deviation rate of weft count is calculated according to Formula (2) and rounded off to one decimal place according to the requirements in GB/T 8170. In Formula (2) the deviation rate of weft count is obtained from the measured value and the nominal value of weft count, both expressed in threads per ten centimeters (threads/10 cm). NOTE The nominal value of weft count is that of clients' requirements or design value of the fabric, which is negotiated and agreed upon by sales contract between both parties.

6.2 The mass per unit area is tested according to method 6 in GB/T 4669-2008. The deviation rate of mass per unit area is calculated according to Formula (3) and rounded off to one decimal place according to the requirements in GB/T 8170. In Formula (3), G is the deviation rate of mass per unit area, m is the nominal value of mass per unit area expressed in grams per square meter (g/m2), and m1 is the measured value of mass per unit area expressed in grams per square meter (g/m2). NOTE The nominal value of mass per unit area is that of clients' requirement or the design value of the fabric, which is negotiated and agreed upon by sales contract between both parties.

6.3 The fibre content is tested according to the requirements in GB/T 2910.11.

6.4 The breaking strength is tested according to the requirements in GB/T 3923.1.

6.5 The tearing strength is tested according to the requirements in GB/T 3917.1.

6.6 The dimensional change in washing is tested according to the requirements in GB/T 8628, GB/T 8629-2017 (with type A washing machine, washing procedure 4 N, drying procedure F), and GB/T 8630.

6.7 The fuzzing and pilling is tested according to the requirements in GB/T 4802.2-2008 with a test condition of 2 000 revolutions. The abrasive material used is the fabric itself, and the load mass is 415 g plus or minus 2 g.

6.8 The colorfastness to light is tested according to method 3 in GB/T 8427-2019.

6.9 The colorfastness to washing is tested according to method C (3) in GB/T 3921-2008.

6.10 The colorfastness to rubbing is tested according to the requirements in GB/T 3920.

6.11 The colorfastness to perspiration is tested according to the requirements in GB/T 3922-2013.

6.12 The colorfastness to hot pressing is tested according to the wet pressing method in GB/T 6152-1997, at a temperature of 150 degrees C plus or minus 2 degrees C.

6.13 The width is tested according to the requirements in GB/T 4666.

6.14 The color difference is assessed according to the requirements in GB/T 250.

6.15 The skewness (pattern skewess or skewness, plaid pattern skewness or plaid skewness) is tested according to the requirements in GB/T 14801.

6.16 The inspection for local defects is carried out according to the scoring method in GB/T 17760-2019. The inspection for scattering defects shall be carried out according to the requirements in GB/T 17760-2019.

7 Inspection rules

Inspection rules shall be in accordance with GB/T 45360.

8 Marking and packing

Marking and packing shall comply with GB/T 45360.

9 Others

For special product varieties and for the products of which clients have special requirements it may be negotiated and agreed upon by sales contract between both parties.

Annex A (informative) Processing coefficients for printed and dyed cotton/polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blended fabric

A.1 Width and warp or weft count processing coefficients. When printed and dyed cotton and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blended fabric is marked with grey fabric specification, refer to Table A.1 for the processing coefficients related to fabric width and warp or weft count.

Table A.1 gives, by product category, the width processing coefficient and the warp and weft count processing coefficients: plain weave 0.937, 1.067 and 0.975; poplin weave and twill weave 0.933, 1.072 and 0.970; khaki weave 0.917, 1.091 and 0.964; sateen weave 0.931, 1.074 and 0.965. NOTE For jacquard fabric, refer to product categories of the similar basic weave for the processing coefficients.

A.2.1 The standard width is calculated according to Formula (A.1) and rounded off to two decimal places according to the requirements in GB/T 8170. In Formula (A.1), W is the standard width of printed and dyed cotton / polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blended fabric expressed in meters (m), W1 is the standard width of cotton/polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blended grey fabric expressed in meters (m), and b is the width processing coefficient of printed and dyed cotton / polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blended fabric.

A.2.2 The standard warp or weft count (warp or weft threads) is calculated according to Formula (A.2) and rounded off to the nearest whole number according to the requirements in GB/T 8170.
