Foreword

This document was issued on 12 November 2024 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the PRC, jointly with the State Administration for Market Regulation and takes effect on 1 September 2025.

It is a GB/T standard: recommended rather than compulsory, but it is the text a Chinese reviewer applies.

This standard was approved and issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China and takes effect on 1 September 2025. On that date it supersedes the national standard GB 50857-2013 "Code of bills of quantities and measurement for municipal works".

Among the changes of the revision, the measurement rules for the preliminaries have been revised, with formwork now measured within the sectional and itemised bill of quantities rather than as a preliminary.

The annexes carry the substance of the document, one for each part of the works, and each gives the bill of quantities items with, for every item, the code, the item name, the item characteristics to be described, the unit of measurement, the measurement rule and the work included.

1 Scope

GB/T 50857-2024 is the Chinese standard for measuring municipal engineering works: the roads, bridges, tunnels, pipe networks, water and waste treatment plant, street lighting and utility tunnels that a city builds. It belongs with GB/T 50854 for buildings, GB/T 50856 for the installation trades and GB/T 50861 for urban rail, and together they are the measurement rules the Chinese bill of quantities system runs on. The standard sets the general provisions and the terms, the rules for measurement and the rules for compiling the bill of quantities including the preliminaries, and then carries the annexes: earthworks and rock works, roads, bridges and culverts, tunnels, pipe networks, water treatment, municipal solid waste treatment, street lighting, reinforcement, demolition, the urban utility tunnel, which is new in this edition and reflects a decade of Chinese investment in it, and the preliminaries. For each item the annex gives the code, the name, the characteristics to be described, the unit, the measurement rule and the work deemed included. The 2024 edition replaces GB 50857-2013.
