Scope

GB/T 50855-2024 is the English-translated version of 仿古建筑工程工程量计算标准.

GB/T 50855-2024 is the Chinese standard for measuring imitation-antique building works: new buildings put up in the traditional Chinese manner, and the repair and reconstruction of historic ones. It exists as a separate measurement standard because the trades have no equivalent in ordinary construction, and neither do the units: stonework, brickwork, timberwork in the traditional joinery sense, timber fittings, the two grades of floor paving, plastering, painting and polychrome decoration, and glazing and paperhanging, each with its own vocabulary and its own way of being measured. The standard sets the general provisions and the terms, the rules for measurement and the rules for compiling the bill of quantities including the preliminaries, and then carries twelve annexes, one per trade plus the rules for calculating the floor area of such a building and the preliminaries. For each item the annex gives the code, the name, the characteristics to be described, the unit, the measurement rule and the work deemed included. The 2024 edition replaces GB 50855-2013. For a heritage contractor, a quantity surveyor or an authority commissioning such work in China, this is the measurement text.

Foreword

This document was issued on 12 November 2024 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the PRC, jointly with the State Administration for Market Regulation and takes effect on 1 September 2025.

It is a GB/T standard: recommended rather than compulsory, but it is the text a Chinese reviewer applies.

The document runs to 110 pages. The identification, the dates, the classification and the table of contents on this page are taken from the cover and the printed contents of the standard itself.

This standard was approved and issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China and takes effect on 1 September 2025. On that date it supersedes the national standard GB 50855-2013.

Among the changes of the revision, the measurement rules for the preliminaries have been revised, with formwork now measured within the sectional and itemised bill of quantities.

The annexes carry the substance of the document, one for each trade, and each gives the bill of quantities items with, for every item, the code, the item name, the item characteristics to be described, the unit of measurement, the measurement rule and the work included. Annex L gives the rules for calculating the floor area of this class of building, which ordinary building rules do not fit.
