Foreword

Announcement No. 192 of 2024 of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development: the Standard for measurement of imitated antique architectural works is approved as a national standard with the number GB/T 50855-2024 and is implemented from 1 September 2025. The former national standard Code of measurement for imitated antique architectural works (GB 50855-2013) is abolished at the same time. The standard is published on the MOHURD website and issued by China Planning Press, organised by the Research Institute of Standards and Norms of MOHURD. Issued jointly by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the State Administration for Market Regulation on 12 November 2024.

In accordance with the requirements of the Notice of the General Office of MOHURD on the 2018 plan for the preparation of construction cost valuation bases and cost management work, and in the spirit of the Work Plan for the Reform of Construction Cost, the drafting group revised this standard on the basis of GB 50855-2013 through extensive investigation, careful summary of practical experience and reference to relevant international standards and advanced foreign experience.

The main technical contents of this standard are: general provisions, terms, measurement of quantities, and preparation of bills of quantities.

The main technical changes in this revision are: 1. the item characteristics of some bill items were revised and content unrelated to design documents was deleted; 2. the units of measurement and measurement rules of some bill items were revised; 3. the work content of some bill items was revised to reflect the main construction operations; 4. bill items for obsolete construction techniques were deleted and items corresponding to current design and construction techniques were added; 5. the measurement rules for preliminaries were revised: formwork is now measured in the bill of work sections and trades, and other preliminaries are measured as items.

1 General provisions

China's national standard for measuring the quantities of imitated antique architecture - new buildings put up in the forms, materials and techniques of traditional Chinese architecture, from temple halls and pavilions to garden corridors, screen walls and scenic-area gateways. It is one of the family of measurement standards that underpin China's bill of quantities pricing system under GB/T 50500: in a tender, every contractor prices the same list of items, and that only works if the items are described, coded, measured and counted in one agreed way. For traditional architecture that is harder than for ordinary building, because the work is made of components with no modern equivalent - brick eaves and carved brick, Xu-mi-zuo platforms, stone railings, glazed ridge ornaments, timber brackets, lattice doors, cylindrical tile roofs and painted and gilded decoration - and each must be measured by its own rule. The standard sets out the documents on which measurement is based, the rounding of totals and the boundary with the building, installation, municipal, landscape and blasting measurement standards, then fixes how the bill of quantities is compiled: twelve-digit item codes, item names, item characteristics, units, measurement rules and work content, taken from appendices covering brickwork, stonework, glazed masonry, concrete, woodwork, roofing, flooring, plastering, painting and preliminaries, plus rules for the floor area of such buildings. It replaces GB 50855-2013 and is used by employers, cost consultants, contractors and auditors on imitated antique construction contracts.

1.0.1 This standard is formulated in order to regulate the measurement of construction works and to unify the measurement rules and the method of preparing bills of quantities for imitated antique architectural works.

1.0.2 This standard applies to the measurement of quantities and the preparation of bills of quantities for imitated antique architectural works at the stages of contracting and execution of construction.

1.0.3 The measurement of imitated antique architectural works shall be carried out in accordance with this standard.

1.0.4 In addition to this standard, the measurement of imitated antique architectural works shall also comply with the relevant current national standards.

2 Terms

2.0.1 measurement of quantities - the activity of calculating the quantities of works in accordance with design documents, technical standards, unified measurement standards and so on.

2.0.2 ancient architecture - buildings and structures surviving from primitive society, slave society, feudal society and the modern period.

2.0.3 imitated antique architecture - buildings constructed after the styles of ancient architecture, having the style and features of ancient architecture in form, materials and technique.

3 Measurement of quantities

3.0.1 In addition to the provisions of this standard, measurement shall be based on the following documents: 1 approved construction design drawings and their descriptions; 2 relevant technical standards; 3 other relevant technical and economic documents.

3.0.2 Measurement during execution of the works shall comply with this standard and also with the relevant provisions of the current national standard GB/T 50500 Standard for bill of quantities and valuation of construction works.

3.0.3 The number of significant digits to which the total of each item is expressed shall follow the rules of this clause, which fix the decimal places for items measured in tonnes, for items measured in metres, square metres, cubic metres and kilograms, and whole numbers for items counted in pieces, blocks, sets, pairs, days and similar units.

3.0.4 Unless otherwise specified in this standard, items of imitated antique architectural works involving earthworks, ground treatment and slope support, and piling shall be measured in accordance with GB/T 50854 Standard for measurement of building and fitting-out works; items involving electrical, water supply and drainage and other installation works in accordance with GB/T 50856 Standard for measurement of general installation works; items involving estate roads, municipal roads and external water supply and drainage in accordance with GB/T 50857 Standard for measurement of municipal works; items involving landscaping in accordance with GB/T 50858 Standard for measurement of landscape works; and rock works executed by blasting in accordance with GB/T 50862 Standard for measurement of blasting works.
