Scope
GB/T 50858-2024 is the English-translated version of 园林绿化工程工程量计算标准.
GB/T 50858-2024 sets out how the quantities of landscaping works are measured in China and how the matching bill of quantities is put together, for the tendering, award and implementation stages of landscaping construction contracts. The body is short: four clauses covering general provisions, terms, measurement of quantities and preparation of bills of quantities, including the rounding rules for totals expressed in tonnes, metres, square metres and cubic metres and for items taken as whole numbers. It fixes the twelve-digit item coding scheme, with the first nine digits taken from the appendices and the last three set for the project in hand, and the way a preparer may add items that the appendices do not list, numbered in sequence from 05B001. Four appendices carry the item tables themselves: soft landscaping, covering ground preparation, transplanting, planting and irrigation systems; garden paths and bridges with revetments; hard landscaping, from rockery through pavilion roofing and fountains to sundries; and preliminaries such as scaffolding, plant nursing, planting technical measures, roof landscaping transport, cofferdams and drainage. Work falling to building, imitation-antique, installation or municipal trades is referred to the matching national measurement standards. Published 12 November 2024, in force from 1 September 2025.

1 General provisions
1.0.1 The standard was drawn up in order to regulate the practice of measuring quantities in construction works and to unify the measurement rules for landscaping works and the method of preparing the bill of quantities.
1.0.2 It applies to the measurement of quantities and the preparation of bills of quantities at the tendering, award and implementation stages of landscaping construction works.
1.0.3 The measurement of quantities of landscaping works is to be carried out in accordance with this standard.
1.0.4 Besides this standard, the measurement of quantities of landscaping works is also to comply with the provisions of the relevant national standards currently in force.
2 Terms
2.0.1 Measurement of quantities is defined as the activity of calculating the quantities of works in accordance with the engineering design documents, technical standards and a unified standard for the measurement of quantities.
2.0.2 Landscaping works are defined as works that use engineering and artistic means to reshape the terrain, build buildings and structures, plant flowers, grass and trees, lay garden paths, place small features and create water features.
2.0.3 Soft landscaping is defined as planting work for trees, flowers, lawns, ground cover and aquatic plants.
2.0.4 Garden paths are defined as the roads inside a garden.
2.0.5 Garden bridges are defined as the footbridges inside a garden over which visitors pass.
2.0.6 Soil for planting is defined as soil of sound physical and chemical character, suited to the growth of garden plants.
3 Measurement of quantities
3.0.1 Besides the provisions of this standard, measurement is also to be based on the construction design drawings and their descriptions as approved, on the relevant technical standards, and on other relevant technical and economic documents.
3.0.2 Measurement during the implementation of a project is also to comply with the relevant provisions of the current national standard GB/T 50500, the standard for bill of quantities based valuation of construction works.
3.0.3 The number of significant figures in the total of each item is fixed: totals in tonnes keep three decimal places, with the fourth decimal rounded; totals in metres, square metres and cubic metres keep two decimal places, with the third decimal rounded; totals expressed in the counted units listed in the clause are taken as whole numbers.
3.0.4 Unless otherwise provided, items of landscaping works that belong to ordinary public buildings and similar works follow the corresponding items of GB/T 50854; items belonging to imitation-antique building works follow GB/T 50855; items belonging to installation works such as electrical work and water supply and drainage follow GB/T 50856; and items belonging to municipal works such as municipal roads and street lamps follow GB/T 50857.
4 Preparation of bills of quantities
4.1.1 A bill of quantities is prepared on the basis of this standard and GB/T 50500; of other specialist measurement standards, valuation provisions and supplementary measurement rules issued by national, provincial and sectoral construction administrations; of the design documents and technical data of the construction project; of the standards and specifications that bear on the project; of the tender documents; of the site conditions and the geological and hydrological survey data; and of other relevant material.
4.1.2 Item characteristics in the bill of quantities are described in combination with the requirements of the drawings and specifications. The work content given for the items of Appendix A to Appendix D lists the main content only; unless otherwise provided and explained, it is taken to include the work needed to complete the bill item.
4.1.3 For the bill items of Appendix A to Appendix D, unless otherwise stated, the work content includes on-site transport of materials and semi-finished products, components and equipment.
4.1.4 Where an item not covered by Appendix A to Appendix D arises, the preparer may add one. The code of an added item is formed from the code 05 of this standard, the letter B and three Arabic digits, numbered in sequence from 05B001. An added bill of quantities carries the name, item characteristics, unit of measurement, measurement rule and work content of the added item; an added preliminaries item carries the name, unit and work content.
4.2.1 The bill of quantities is prepared according to the item codes, item names, item characteristics, units of measurement and measurement rules laid down in Appendix A to Appendix C.
4.2.2 The item code is written with twelve Arabic digits. Digits one to nine are set according to the appendices, and digits ten to twelve according to the bill item name and item characteristics of the project to be built. Within one tendered project, item codes of the same single project may not be duplicated.
4.2.3 Item names follow the item names of Appendix A to Appendix C, settled in combination with the actual description of the project to be built.
4.2.4 Item characteristics follow the item characteristics of Appendix A to Appendix C, described in combination with the actual project to be built.
4.2.5 Units of measurement are those laid down in Appendix A to Appendix C.
4.2.6 The quantities listed in the bill of quantities are calculated by the measurement rules laid down in Appendix A to Appendix C.
4.3.1 When a bill of quantities is prepared, the preliminaries items of Appendix D are settled according to the item codes, item names and work content laid down there.
4.3.2 Preliminaries items for which the employer supplies design drawings and requires the contractor to build to those drawings have their bill of quantities prepared under Section 4.2 and are listed in the bill of quantities for work sections and trades.
A.1 Ground preparation (Appendix A)
A.1.1 The setting of bill items for ground preparation, the content of the item characteristic descriptions, the units of measurement and the measurement rules follow Table A.1.1, which carries the item code group 050101.
Table A.1.1 is laid out in six columns: item code, item name, item characteristics, unit of measurement, measurement rule and work content. The item names read on the page are felling of trees, clearing of vegetation, backfilling with planting soil, replacement of planting soil, levelling of the ground to be planted, and forming of slopes and shapes in the planted area.
The other tables of the appendices carry the same six columns. The appendix pages consulted also carry notes referring particular sub-items to the corresponding item codes of GB/T 50857 for municipal works.

The frontispiece carries no supersession entry. The announcement of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development reproduced at the front of the volume, number 195 of 2024 and dated 12 November 2024, states that the standard is approved under the number GB/T 50858-2024 with effect from 1 September 2025, and that the former national standard GB 50858-2013 is repealed at the same time.
The foreword states that the drafting group revised GB 50858-2013, and lists the main changes: item characteristics, units of measurement, measurement rules and work content of some bill items were revised; some commonly used bill items were added; and the measurement rules for preliminaries items were revised.
