Scope
GB/T 4989-2013 is the English-translated version of 热电偶用补偿导线.
GB/T 4989-2013 covers the extension and compensating cables used with thermocouples.
Clause 1 states that the standard specifies the product classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking and packaging of thermocouple compensation wire, and that it applies to the compensation wire fitted to thermocouples of index numbers S, R, K, N, E, J and T; the same clause names polyvinyl chloride, polytetrafluoroethylene and glass as the main insulation and sheathing materials, while allowing other materials provided they meet the technical requirements of the standard.
Clause 3, headed Terms, definitions and symbols, defines compensation wire as a pair of insulated conductors whose nominal thermal electromotive force matches that of the thermocouple over a temperature range that includes room temperature, connected to the thermocouple measuring device in order to compensate the error caused by changes in the temperature at the thermocouple junction, and it divides compensation wire into an extension type and a compensating type.
Extension cables are defined as those whose alloy wire has the same chemical composition and the same nominal thermal electromotive force as the thermocouple they are fitted to, and which are designated by appending the letter X to the thermocouple index number, as in EX; compensating cables are those whose alloy wire differs in chemical composition from the thermocouple pair.
The cited documents show how conformity is judged: GB/T 2828.1 for acceptance sampling by acceptance quality limit and GB/T 2829 for periodic inspection sampling, GB/T 2951.11, GB/T 2951.12 and GB/T 2951.14 for the common test methods on insulating and sheathing materials covering dimensions and mechanical tests, thermal ageing and cold resistance, GB/T 16839.1 for the thermocouple indexing table and IEC 60584-3:2007 for the tolerances and identification system of extension and compensating cables.
The foreword records what changed against the previous edition: the structure was rearranged with a foreword, normative references, and terms and definitions added as three clauses, the tolerances on thermal electromotive force were modified, and the insulation resistance requirements were differentiated according to the insulating material.
The standard was proposed by the China Machinery Industry Federation, is administered by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Instrument Functional Materials (SAC/TC419) and was drafted by the Chongqing Institute of Materials with instrumentation, alloy and instrument cable companies taking part.
It replaces GB/T 4989-1994, the earlier editions being GB/T 4989-1985 and GB/T 4989-1994, was issued on 31 December 2013 and has applied since 15 August 2014.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with GB/T 1.1-2009 given rules.
This standard replaces GB/T 4989-1994 "thermocouple wire, with the compensation." This standard compared with GB/T 4989-1994, the main changes are as follows.
--- Adjust the standard structure, increasing the foreword, normative references, terms and definitions of three sections;
--- Silver shield material increases the copper wire two kinds of stainless steel;
--- Thermal emf tolerance prescribed ASTME230-2003 been modified;
--- Insulation resistance of insulating materials to make different requirements, respectively. The standard proposed by China Machinery Industry Federation.
The standard instrument functional materials by the National Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC419) centralized.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the thermocouple compensation wire product classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, labeling, packaging and so on.
This standard applies to indexing number is S, R, K, N, E, J and T thermocouples equipped with Compensation wire (hereinafter referred to as compensation wire). Wire insulation and sheathing polyvinyl chloride, polytetrafluoroethylene and alkali glass as the main material. For other materials, if we can meet this standard technical requirements, can also be used.

3.1 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1.1
The nominal value of the same pair with an insulating layer in a range of temperatures (including room temperature) has matched thermocouple thermal emf
The wires are connected with a thermocouple measuring device to compensate for errors they thermocouple junction temperature changes arising from compensation guide Extend the line is divided into two kinds and compensation type.
3.1.2 Extended compensation wire
Extended compensation wire type wire, also known as extended, on behalf of the chemical composition of an alloy wire and the nominal value of the thermal electromotive force and equipped with dual wire thermocouple The same, it is by the letter "X" appended to the thermocouple indexing number, eg "EX".
3.1.3 Compensated compensation wire
Compensated compensation wire, also known as compensated wire, alloy wire in the name of its chemical composition and is equipped with dual wire thermocouple different, but its thermal electromotive force
