Scope
GB/T 4893.4-2023 is the English-translated version of 家具表面漆膜理化性能试验 第4部分:附着力交叉切割测定法.
GB/T 4893.4-2023 is the Chinese national cross-cut method for measuring how well a paint film sticks to a furniture surface.
Its introduction states that it is Part 4 of GB/T 4893 on the physical and chemical properties of furniture surface coatings, a series of nine parts covering cold liquids, humid and dry heat, adhesion, thickness, gloss, abrasion and impact.
The test cuts at least six parallel incisions in the film and as many at right angles, removes loose coating debris and then rates the cut area against graded examples; every cut must mark the substrate, as shallowly as possible, and single-edge and multi-blade cutters give results that cannot be compared.
Clause 1 excludes films over 250 µm thick and uneven films. It replaces GB/T 4893.4-2013, was issued on 27 November 2023 and has applied since 1 June 2024.

Introduction
The physical and chemical properties of the paint film on the furniture surface include resistance to cold liquids, resistance to moisture and heat, resistance to dry heat, adhesion, thickness, gloss, resistance to hot and cold temperature differences, abrasion resistance and Impact, etc., due to the large content, GB/T 4893 consists of nine parts.
---Part 1. Determination of resistance to cold liquids. The purpose is to specify the method for determining the resistance of paint films on furniture surfaces to cold liquids.
---Part 2. Determination of heat and moisture resistance. The purpose is to specify the method for determining the moisture and heat resistance of paint films on furniture surfaces.
---Part 3. Determination of dry heat resistance. The purpose is to specify the method for determining the dry heat resistance of paint films on furniture surfaces.
---Part 4. Adhesion cross-cut determination method. The purpose is to specify the method for cross-cut determination of paint film adhesion on furniture surfaces.
---Part 5. Thickness determination method. The purpose is to specify the method for measuring the thickness of paint film on furniture surfaces.
---Part 6. Gloss determination method. The purpose is to specify the method for measuring the gloss of paint films on furniture surfaces.
---Part 7. Determination of resistance to hot and cold temperature difference. The purpose is to specify the method for determining the resistance of paint films on furniture surfaces to hot and cold temperature differences.
---Part 8. Determination of wear resistance. The purpose is to specify the method for determining the abrasion resistance of paint films on furniture surfaces.
---Part 9. Impact resistance determination method. The purpose is to specify the method for determining the impact resistance of paint films on furniture surfaces.
This document is Part 4 of GB/T 4893. It specifies the measurement method for adhesion cross-cutting. It is mainly used to simulate real life and evaluate The anti-separation ability of the paint film and the substrate provides technical support for improving the surface quality of furniture, standardizing the order of the furniture market, and protecting consumers. Provide technical protection for legitimate rights and interests.
1 Scope
This document describes a test method for determining the adhesion of paint films to furniture surfaces.
This document is applicable to the cured surface of painted furniture and tests conducted on unused furniture or test sample surfaces.
This document does not apply to paint films with a total thickness greater than 250 µm, nor to uneven paint films.
2 Normative reference documents
The contents of the following documents constitute essential provisions of this document through normative references in the text. Among them, the dated quotations For undated referenced documents, only the version corresponding to that date applies to this document; for undated referenced documents, the latest version (including all amendments) applies to this document.

3 Terms and definitions
There are no terms or definitions to be defined in this document.
4 Principles
Cut at least 6 parallel cuts on the paint film on the furniture surface, and cut another equal number of cuts perpendicular to the first cut. incision. Remove any loose and flaking coating debris, then visually inspect the cut area and compare to an example of a Grade 6 grading result. Determine the adhesion rating.
5 Instruments and Equipment
5.1 Cutting tools
5.1.1 General requirements
Cutting tools should be rigid knives that comply with regulations. Suitable tools are specified in 5.1.2 and 5.1.3 and are shown in Figures 1 and 2.
Single-edged cutting tools (see 5.1.2) and multi-edged cutting tools (see 5.1.3) are suitable for all paint films and substrates; all cuts should be ensured All leave indentations or scratches on the substrate and the depth of the indentations or scratches on the substrate should be as shallow as possible. The type of cutting tool used has an impact on the test results Impact, results from different types of cutting tools cannot be,directly compared. For each test series, the same cutting tool should be used.
5.1.2 Single-edged cutting tools
5.1.2.1 Circular single-edged cutting tool, as shown in Figure 1a)
