3 Terms and definitions
GB/T 28418-2012, GB/T 36296-2018, GB/T 39468-2020 and the following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Soil moisture
Adsorbed to soil particles and water present in soil pores.
Note: Mainly liquid water, a few are solid ice frozen in cold seasons and gaseous water in the form of water vapor.
3.2 Soil volumetric water content
The volume of liquid water per unit volume of soil.
Note: The unit is cubic centimeter per cubic centimeter (cm3/cm3).
3.3 Gravimetric soil moisture
The ratio of the mass of liquid water held in the soil to the mass of dry soil.
Note: The unit is gram per gram (g/g).
3.4 Soil bulk density
The mass of dry soil per unit volume of undisturbed soil.
