Scope
GB/T 36700.2-2018 is the English-translated version of 化学品 水生环境危害分类指导 第2部分:统一分类方法.
GB/T 36700.2-2018 is Part 2 of the Chinese guidance on classifying chemicals for their hazard to the aquatic environment, and it describes the harmonized classification method on which the other parts build.
It sets out the hazard categories and classification criteria, the basic principles of the method and how it is applied, and what the guidance says about data availability and data quality.
It defines acute aquatic toxicity, chronic aquatic toxicity and difficult substances, and lists abbreviations such as BCF, EC50 and ECx. The method works with GB 30000.28 on hazards to the aquatic environment, with the other parts of GB/T 36700 on aquatic toxicity and QSAR, and with the UN Globally Harmonized System (GHS). It was issued on 17 September 2018 and has applied since 1 April 2019.

Foreword
GB/T 36700 "Chemical Aquatic Environmental Hazard Classification Guidance" is divided into the following eight parts.
--- Part 1. Introduction;
--- Part 2. Unified classification method;
---Part 3. Aquatic toxicity;
--- Part 4. Degradation;
--- Part 5. Bioconcentration;
--- Part 6. Quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR);
--- Part 7. Classification of metals and metal compounds;
--- Part 8. Guidance for the conversion/dissolution of metals and metal compounds in aqueous media.
This part is the second part of GB/T 36700.
This part is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 36700 specifies the classification categories and standards for the classification of aquatic environmental hazards involving a uniform classification method. Basic principles, applications, data availability and data quality.
This section applies to the guidance of a uniform classification method for the classification of chemical aquatic environmental hazards.

3 Terms and definitions, abbreviations
3.1 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions defined in GB 30000.28 apply to this document.
3.1.1 Acute aquatic toxicity
It can damage the organism that touches the substance in water for a short time, which is the nature of the substance itself.
3.1.2 Chronic aquatic toxicity
It can cause harmful effects on organisms that have been exposed to the substance for a long time in water, and is the nature of the substance itself.
Note: The contact time is determined by the life cycle of the organism.
3.1.3 Difficult substance
Substances that are difficult to test in aquatic systems.
Note: The main performance is that the standard test method is not applicable, or it is difficult to give a proper explanation of the test data.
3.2 Abbreviations
The following abbreviations apply to this document.
BCF. Bioconcentration factor
EC50. half effect concentration (Concentration for 50% of maximal effect)
ECx. x% effect concentration (Concentration for x% of maximal effect)
