2 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
2.1 Map symbol
The general name of various graphics and symbols on the map consists of graphic variables such as shape, size, position, orientation, text, and color.
Note. Rewrite GB/T 16820-2009, definition 4.35. This standard only discusses the part of the graphic symbol and does not discuss the part of the annotation.
2.2 Map symbol library
A collection of data information of various map symbols selected for map compilation organized according to a predetermined structure.
[GB/T 16820-2009, definition 5.8]
2.3 Point symbol
The symbol used to represent an abstract feature or feature of a point.
Note. Rewrite GB/T 16820-2009, definition 4.36. The size of the point symbol has nothing to do with the map scale but has a positioning feature.
2.4 Line symbol
The symbol used to represent abstract features or phenomena that are lines.
Note. Rewrite GB/T 16820-2009, definition 4.37. The length of the line symbol extending along a certain direction is related to the map scale.
2.5 Surface symbol arealsymbol
A symbol used to represent an abstract surface feature or phenomenon.
Note. Rewrite GB/T 16820-2009, definition 4.38. The range of surface symbols is related to the map scale.
2.6 Elementary primitive
The most basic graphic elements that make up the map symbol, such as points, lines, and faces, are the smallest graphical units that can be edited.
[CH/T 4017-2012, definition 2.4]
2.7 Composite primitive
An ordered collection of basic primitives.
