3 Terms and definitions

GB 31221, QX/T 8, QX4 and defined by the following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Meteorological elements

Characterize the basic physical conditions of the atmosphere and the basic weather phenomena.

3.2 Surface weather observation

With the help of instruments and manpower, we observe and measure systematically and continuously the meteorological conditions within a certain range of the Earth's surface and its changing process.

3.3 Automaticmeteorologicalstation

A device that automatically observes, stores, and transmits surface meteorological observations.

3.4 Station number

A unique number for a meteorological observatory made up of five numbers or letters.

Note. The first two digits of the station number are the area code or category number, and the last three digits are the station number.

3.5 Daybound dayboundary

Ground meteorological observations artificially demarcated the time line between the beginning and the end of the day.
