Scope

GB/T 2660-2017 is the English-translated version of 衬衫.

China's national product standard for shirts and blouses. It specifies the requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules and the marking, packaging, transport and storage of shirts and blouses made from woven fabric. This is one of the garment standards on which the Chinese apparel trade actually runs. A buyer specifies the product against it, a factory manufactures to it, an inspection body tests against it, and a dispute over a shipment is settled by it - so its content is commercial before it is technical. The requirements divide into what the fabric must be and what the making-up must be, and the second is what distinguishes a garment standard from a textile one. The fabric requirements are the familiar ones: fibre composition and the tolerance on the declared blend, colour fastness to washing, rubbing, perspiration and light, dimensional change after washing, and the safety requirements on formaldehyde, azo dyes and pH that GB 18401 imposes on anything worn. The making-up requirements are specific to the garment: the stitch density, the seam strength and the seam slippage, the symmetry of collar points and cuffs, the alignment of pattern across a seam, the position and security of buttons and buttonholes, the fusing of the interlining and its resistance to bubbling after washing, and the tolerances on the finished measurements against the size designation. A shirt fails inspection far more often on those than on the fabric, and they are what a buyer's technical file refers to. The standard also fixes the grading of defects and the sampling by which a lot is accepted or rejected. Issued on 12 May 2017 and in force since 1 December 2017, it replaces GB/T 2660-2008.

This is one of the garment standards on which the Chinese apparel trade actually runs. A buyer specifies the product against it, a factory manufactures to it, an inspection body tests against it, and a dispute over a shipment is settled by it - so its content is commercial before it is technical.
