Scope

GB/T 21854-2025 is the English-translated version of 化学品 鱼类早期生活阶段毒性试验.

GB/T 21854-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering exposing fish from the fertilised egg through hatching and early feeding — the flow-through system and the concentration control, the hatching success, survival, growth and abnormalities recorded, and the no-effect concentration from the stage of life that is the most sensitive there is. Issued on 29 August 2025, it has been in force since 1 December 2025, replacing GB/T 21854-2008.

Foreword

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1: Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting.

This document replaces GB/T 21854-2008 “Chemicals - Toxicity to Early Life Stages of Fish” and is consistent with GB/T 21854-2008.

In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.

— Added the terms and definitions of "harpoon length", "standard length of fish", "full length of fish", "effect concentration" and "unknown complex substance" (see 3.1~3.4, 3.7);

— Changed the test substance information content (see Chapter 4, Chapter 3 of the 2008 edition);

— Changed the test principle (see Chapter 5, 4.1 of the 2008 edition);

— Changed the instrumentation (see Chapter 6, Chapter 5 of the 2008 edition);

— Changed the test preparation and test procedures (see Chapters 7 and 8, Chapters 6 and 7 of the 2008 edition);

— Modified quality assurance and quality control (see Chapter 9, Chapter 8 of the 2008 edition);

— Changed data and reporting (see Chapter 10, Chapter 9 of the 2008 edition).

1 Scope

This document specifies the test substance information, instrumentation, test system, test procedures, quality control, and other related information for the early life stage toxicity test of chemicals in fish.

Quality assurance and quality control, data and reporting requirements.

This document is applicable to the testing of chemicals for lethal and sublethal effects on early life stages of fish to evaluate chronic toxicity and Subchronic toxic effects.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 fishforklength;FFL

The straight-line distance from the tip of the snout to the end of the mid-tail fin line is used to measure the body length of fish in which the end of the vertebral column is difficult to distinguish.

3.2 fish standard length fishstandardlength;FSL

The straight-line distance from the tip of the snout to the end of the last vertebra at the base of the caudal fin or to the base of the caudal fin, excluding the length of the caudal fin.

3.3 Fish total length; FTL

The straight-line distance from the tip of the snout to the end of the longer lobe of the caudal fin.

3.4 effect concentration;ECx

The concentration of the test substance that causes a certain observed effect in x% of the test organisms compared with the control organisms during a given test period. [Source. HJ1257-2022, 2.1.33]

3.5 [Source. HJ1257-2022, February 1, 38]

The lowest concentration of a substance that produces a statistically significant effect (p less than 0.05) on the test organism compared with the control group within a given test period Test substance concentration.

3.6 [Source. HJ1257-2022, February 1, 39]

No statistically significant effect (p greater than or equal to 0.000) was observed on the test organisms compared to the control group within a given test period.

0.05) of the highest test substance concentration.
