GB/T 17670-2025 is the Chinese national standard on unified coding for natural stone, in the field of construction materials and building. The /T suffix marks it as a recommended standard: it is not compulsory by itself, but it becomes binding as soon as a contract, a tender or a customer specification calls it up - which in practice is how most foreign buyers meet it. It was issued on 25 April 2025 by the State Administration for Market Regulation; Standardization Administration of China, and has been in force since 1 November 2025. Classification: ICS 91.100.15, CCS Q21. This page is published from the official record of the standard held by the Chinese standards administration: the identification, the dates, the classification and the issuing body are taken from there. The clause text, the tables and the numeric limits are in the document itself, which is delivered complete in English translation.

This document specifies the classification and naming of natural stone, the principles of numbering, and the names and numbers. This document applies to the naming and numbering of granite, marble, limestone, sandstone, slate, and other stone materials used in building decoration.
5 Numbering Principles
5.1 The unified numbering system for natural stone consists of a stone type code (1 letter), a stone origin code (2 digits), and a sequence number representing the origin of the stone. The code consists of three parts in sequence. two numbers or two letters.
5.2 Stone Type Code. Represents the type of stone, consisting of one English letter.
a) Granite -- G;
c) Limestone -- L;
d) Quartz-based sandstone -- Q;
f) Other stone -- A.
5.3 Stone Origin Code. Represents the origin of domestically produced stone, consisting of 2 digits, according to the provincial, autonomous region, and municipality codes specified in GB/T 2260. See Appendix A for administrative division codes.
5.4 Origin Stone Sequence Code. Represents the serial number of the stone variety belonging to the production area of each province, autonomous region, or municipality, consisting of numbers 0-9 and uppercase letters. The letters A through F can form two numbers or English letters.
6 Name and Number
6.1 The names and unified codes of domestically produced stone materials are shown in Table 1, and their English names are for reference.
6.2 The names and types of imported stone are listed in Appendix B. GB/T 17670-2025. Unified Numbering System for Natural Stone National Standards of the People's Republic of China ICS 91.100.15CCS Q
