Scope
GB/T 16472-2024 is the English-translated version of 乘客及货物类型、包装类型和包装材料类型代码.
GB/T 16472-2024 gives the Chinese code set for passengers, cargo types, package types and packaging material types, the Chinese equivalent of the UN/ECE Recommendation 21 package type codes that appear on customs declarations, manifests and EDI messages worldwide. Anyone filing or reading a Chinese import or export declaration, a bill of lading or an electronic customs message encounters these codes, and this is the document that defines them. It sets the code structure and representation, the rules of use, the rules for extended application and the choice between the numeric and the alphabetic form. Its five normative annexes carry the code tables themselves: the one-digit numeric code system, the cargo type representation and graphical symbols of the numeric codes, the package type codes with their graphical symbols and names, and then the full package type code list used in international trade given twice over, once in alphabetical order of the English name and once in order of the code, some forty pages of tables in all. The 2024 edition adds twenty-two new codes and deletes one; it replaces GB/T 16472-2013, which is superseded. It applies to automated data exchange between parties in international trade and equally to manual systems.
