Scope
GB/T 15784-2009 is the English-translated version of 制材机械型号编制方法.
GB/T 15784-2009 specifies the method of model designation for sawmill machinery - sawmill saws, sawmill carriages, sawmill auxiliary machines and saw maintenance equipment.
A model is built from the code Z, a class letter (J, C, F or M), an optional general characteristic letter (automatic, semi-automatic, numerical control, universal) and left-hand mark, a one-digit group and series code, the main parameter and optional second main parameter reduced by conversion factors, and a letter for major improvements, as in ZJ(Z)3212 for a left-hand carriage band saw with 1250 mm wheels.
Table 3 assigns the machine names to every class, group and series - rip and cross-cut circular saws, band saws, frame saws, chain saws, combined canters and chipper machines, carriages, conveyors and log handling equipment, saw sharpening and welding machines - together with their main parameters and conversion factors.
It replaces GB/T 15784-1995, adding conversion factors for the second main parameter and the machine names of the groups and series. Issued on 30 November 2009, in force since 1 January 2010.

This standard replaces GB/T 15784-1995, Method of model designation for sawmill machinery.
Compared with GB/T 15784-1995, the main differences in this standard are as follows:
- conversion factors for the second main parameter have been added;
- the machine names of the groups and series have been added.
This standard was proposed by the State Forestry Administration.
This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Wood-based Panel Machinery of Standardization Administration of China.
