Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part

1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting. This document replaces GB/T 12418-2001 "Technical Requirements for Repair of Steel General-Purpose Containers". Compared with GB/T 12418-2001, except for... Aside from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

a) The scope has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the.2001 edition);

b) Added the terms "periodic inspection plan", "damage", "calibration", "calibration welding", "patch", "replacement", and "renewal" and their definitions. (See 3.4, 3.6~3.12);

c) The terms "maintenance," "repair," "inspection," "testing," and "certification," along with their definitions, have been removed (see sections 3.1, 3.3, 3.5, 3.6, and

3.8 of the.2001 edition).

d) The term "approved continuous testing program" and its definition have been changed (see 3.5,

3.9 of the.2001 edition);

e) The basic requirements for inspection have been changed (see 4.1,.2001 edition 4.1);

f) The inspection criteria for major components such as corner columns, beams, side panels and front panels, top panels, bottom structure, floor, and doors have been modified (see

1 Scope

GB/T 12418-2025 is the Chinese national standard on technical requirements of repairs for steel general purpose containers, in the field of packaging and distribution of goods. The /T suffix marks it as a recommended standard: it is not compulsory by itself, but it becomes binding as soon as a contract, a tender or a customer specification calls it up - which in practice is how most foreign buyers meet it. It was issued on 31 October 2025 by the State Administration for Market Regulation; Standardization Administration of China, and has been in force since 1 May 2026. 2 Normative references

The contents of the following documents, through normative references within the text, constitute essential provisions of this document. Dated citations are not included. 3 Terms and Definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 1992 and the following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Inspection Verification of the container's condition and suitability.

3.2 repair Replacement or partial repair of container structural components, accessories, and materials to restore the container to normal operating condition and extend its service life. Repair and shape correction work.

3.3 Refurbishment Treatment of the inner and outer surfaces of containers, including painting and updating of markings.

3.4 According to the procedures established or approved by the competent authority, containers approved under the 1972 International Convention for the Safety of Containers shall be deemed suitable for operation.
