This standard specifies the basic requirements for firefighting emergency operations, emergency procedures, effect evaluation and recording requirements for marine engine rooms. This standard is applicable to cargo ships of 500 gross tonnage and above, and passenger ships of 12 passengers or more, sailing on the sea for commercial transportation purposes.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Sea-goingship Designed for ships that mainly sail outside of sheltered areas such as ports, rivers, lakes, or similar areas.
