Foreword

This document was issued on 29 December 2022 by the State Administration for Market Regulation; Standardization Administration of the PRC and takes effect on 1 October 2023.

It is a GB standard without the /T suffix: compliance is mandatory in China.

1 Scope

GB 3565.2-2022 is a mandatory national standard for bicycle safety, covering the categories a rider actually buys: city and trekking bicycles, young adult bicycles, mountain bikes and racing bikes. Mandatory status is appropriate because a bicycle fails in a particular way — the parts that break are the ones under the rider's weight at speed, the fork, the frame, the handlebar and stem, the wheels, and the brakes — and the consequence of any of them failing is a fall at road speed, usually with no chance to react. The categories are separated because the loads differ: a mountain bike must survive impacts a city bicycle never sees, a racing frame is built lighter and to a different bargain between weight and margin, and a young adult bicycle is ridden by someone lighter but with less judgement. This part specifies the safety and performance requirements for the design, assembly and testing of bicycles and their components across the saddle height ranges it tabulates, together with the associated test methods. Under CCS Y14, it is written for bicycle and component manufacturers, for the certification bodies that approve products for the Chinese market, and for the importers and retailers responsible for what they sell.

This document specifies the security and performance requirements for the design,

assembly and testing of bicycles and their components with various saddle heights (see

Table 1). It also provides technical guidelines for manufacturers to prepare operating

instructions for bicycle use and maintenance.

2 Normative references

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in GB/T 3565.1-

2022 apply.

4 Requirements

During normal riding, transportation and maintenance, there shall be no exposed sharp

edges anywhere that the rider's hands, legs, etc. may touch. Such as burrs, sharp corners,

curling or similar processing.

5 Manufacturer's instructions

Provide instructions (paper, CD, website, etc.) that comply with national regulations, or

use visual tools such as pictograms and illustrations. Security information describing

the product shall be highlighted.

6 Marks

Carry out the test according to the method described in 4.4 of GB/T 3565.3-2022.The

mark shall still be clearly visible. Marks shall not be easily removed. There shall also

be no signs of curling.

and ISO 4210-2.2015.

involved clauses are marked with a vertical single line (|) in the outer margin of the

page. A list of these technical differences and their causes is provided in Annex B.

This document has undergone the following minimal editorial changes.

so as to coordinate with existing standardization documents.
