Scope
GB 19172-2003 is the English-translated version of 平菇菌种.
GB 19172-2003 specifies the quality requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and labelling, marking, packaging, transport and storage of the pure culture (spawn) of Pleurotus ostreatus (oyster mushroom), and applies to the production, distribution and use of spawn of Pleurotus ostreatus and also of Pleurotus sapidus, Pleurotus cornucopiae, Pleurotus pulmonarius and Pleurotus florida.
It covers the three levels of propagation - stock culture in test tubes, pre-culture spawn and cultivation spawn - with sensory requirements for each (container, plug, fill, inoculum, mycelium appearance, exudates, contaminants, antagonism, primordia, odour), microbiological requirements (robust growth, clamp connections, no contaminants) and growth rates at 25 °C ± 2 °C: 6 to 8 days to cover the slant for stock culture, 25 to 30 days for pre-culture spawn, and for spawn (15 ± 2) days per bottle and (20 ± 2) days per bag on grain medium.
Stock cultures must reach a biological efficiency of at least 10 % in fruiting tests.
Test methods cover sensory inspection, microscopic and cultural checks for bacteria and moulds, growth rate and a comparative cultivation test against the parent strain; sampling rates are 10 %, 5 % and 1 % by level, retained samples are kept at 4 °C to 6 °C, and the labelling of tubes, bottles, bags and cases is specified.
