Scope
GB 19170-2003 is the English-translated version of 香菇菌种.
GB 19170-2003 specifies the quality requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and labelling, packaging, transport and storage of Lentinula edodes (shiitake) spawn, and applies to its production, distribution and use.
It covers the three levels of the Chinese propagation chain - stock culture in test tubes, pre-culture spawn and cultivation spawn - with sensory requirements for each (container, plug, medium filling, inoculum amount, mycelium appearance, absence of sectors, antagonism, contaminants and primordia, odour), common microbiological requirements (robust uniform mycelium, clamp connections present, no contaminants) and mycelial growth times: 10 to 14 days at 24 °C ± 1 °C for the stock culture slant, 35 to 50 days and 40 to 50 days at 23 °C ± 2 °C for pre-culture spawn and spawn.
Sampling is set at 10%, 5% and 1% of the batch with a minimum of 10 units, and the test methods cover sensory inspection, microscopic examination, bacteria and mould tests, growth-rate measurement and a comparative fruiting trial of the stock culture against its parent strain.
Retained samples are stored at 4 °C to 6 °C for seven or five months, and labels must show product, variety, producer, inoculation date and standard; Annexes A and B are normative.
