Scope
GB 18664-2025 is the English-translated version of 呼吸防护装备的选择、使用和维护.
GB 18664-2025 specifies the selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment, the respiratory protection programme to be run by employers, and the rules for discarding and replacing equipment.
It applies to respiratory protective equipment used against oxygen deficiency and/or air contaminants in the workplace, and does not apply to equipment for underwater work, aviation or medical rescue.
The document defines the classes of equipment (air-purifying, powered, supplied-air, self-contained, positive- and negative-pressure) and facepieces, and sets out the selection procedure by hazard level, assigned protection factors (APF), contaminant type, working conditions and wearer, requirements for use including high-temperature and high-humidity environments, filter replacement and supplied-air and self-contained apparatus, and maintenance.
Informative annexes cover hazardous environment assessment, IDLH concentrations, warning properties of toxic gases and vapours, selection examples, assessment of the ability to use a respirator, user seal checks, programme inspection and fit test methods.
It supersedes GB/T 18664-2002 and becomes a mandatory standard, with revised terms and APF values and new clauses on self-contained breathing apparatus and discarding; issued on 29 August 2025, in force from 1 September 2026.
Classification: ICS 13.340.30, CCS C73. The document runs to 75 pages, delivered complete in English translation.

This document supersedes GB/T 18664-2002 Selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment. Compared with GB/T 18664-2002, apart from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:
a) "respiratory protective articles" has been changed to "respiratory protective equipment" or "respirator";
b) some terms and definitions have been changed (see 3.1 to 3.10, 3.13, 3.15 to 3.18, 3.20, 3.21, 3.26, 3.32 and 3.35; 3.1.1 to 3.1.13, 3.1.15 to 3.1.17, 3.1.20 and 3.1.25 of the 2002 edition);
c) the abbreviations have been deleted (see 3.2 of the 2002 edition);
d) 12 terms have been added: half facepiece, full facepiece, disposable facepiece, replaceable facepiece, microorganism, aerosol, oxygen deficiency, immediately dangerous to life or health environment, workplace protection factor, simulated workplace protection factor, electrostatic spraying and electrostatic powder spraying (see 3.7.1, 3.7.2, 3.7.3, 3.8, 3.13.4, 3.14, 3.16, 3.19, 3.28, 3.29, 3.31 and 3.32);
e) the requirements for the situation without protection have been changed (see 4.1.1; 4.1.1 of the 2002 edition);
f) the description of the control of chemical hazardous factors has been changed (see 4.1.3 and 4.2.2; 4.1.3 and 4.2.2 of the 2002 edition);
g) the compliance requirements for respiratory protective equipment have been changed (see 4.1.4; 4.1.4 of the 2002 edition);
h) a method has been added for determining the hazard level of air contaminants for which no occupational exposure limit has been established [see 4.2.2 e)];
i) the selection procedure for respiratory protective equipment has been changed (see Figure 1; Figure 1 of the 2002 edition);
j) a method has been added for selecting respiratory protective equipment for air contaminants for which the hazard ratio cannot be calculated [see 4.2.3.2 b)];
k) the APF values of respiratory protective equipment have been changed (see Table 2; Table 2 of the 2002 edition);
l) the requirements for selecting respiratory protective equipment according to the type of air contaminant have been changed (see 4.2.4; 4.2.4 of the 2002 edition);
