1 Foreword

JB/T 8996-2014 was issued by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China on 6 May 2014 and has been in force since 1 October 2014.

It replaces the earlier edition JB/T 8996-1999.

2 Scope

This standard is the recommended machinery industry standard of China that serves as a guide to the selection of high-voltage cables. Rather than setting product limits, it gives the guidance used when choosing a cable: the conductor size, the insulation level and the cable structure. It is written for high-voltage cables in three-phase alternating current systems above 1 kV. The guide is not equivalent in content to IEC 60183-1984, on which it is based, and it is used alongside GB 311.1-2012 and GB/T 3956. It takes the place of JB/T 8996-1999.
