1 Foreword

JB 8799-1998 was issued by MIIT on 17 July 1998 and has been in force since 1 December 1998.

2 Scope

This standard sets out the basic safety requirements for grinding machines, and the technical conditions for the protection fitted to them. It covers the safety provisions that a grinding machine has to satisfy, with attention to the guarding of the abrasive wheel. The standard applies to bench and pedestal grinding machines within the wheel diameter ranges it states. Because the hazard arises from the wheel itself, the standard is read together with the rules on abrasive wheels and on the electrical equipment of machines, which it cites as normative references.
