1 Scope

China's national standard for the style A nut used in flared tube couplings. The nut is what makes the joint: it slides over the tube before the flare is formed, and tightening it drives the flare against the fitting's cone seat with enough force to seal metal on metal at working pressures up to 16 MPa. Everything about it is therefore determined by what it must do rather than by convenience - the thread must carry that force with margin, the length must engage enough threads, the bore must clear the tube without binding, and the hexagon must be big enough to take the torque with a normal spanner. Style A is one of the two nut forms in this family, differing from style B in proportions and hexagon size, and the two are not interchangeable in a joint. The standard specifies the style A nut's dimensions and technical requirements, for tube outside diameters of 4 to 34 mm at working pressures of 3.5 to 16 MPa.
