GB/T 5296.5-2025 is the English-translated version of 消费品使用说明 第5部分:玩具.
GB/T 5296.5-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering what must be printed on a toy and its box — the age grading and the reason for it, the assembly and adult supervision warnings, the battery and charging instructions, the maintenance, and the language and legibility of all of it. Part 5 of the series. It replaces GB 5296.5-2006 and moves it from mandatory to recommended status, a standard nineteen years old. In force from 1 February 2026. Issued on 5 October 2025, it has been in force since 1 February 2026, replacing GB 5296.5-2006.

Foreword
This Document was drafted as per the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives for Standardization – Part 1: Rules for the Structure and Drafting of Standardizing Documents.
This Document is Part 5 of GB/T 5296 Instructions for Use of Products of Consumer Interest.
GB/T 5296 consists of the following parts.
— Part 1: General Principles;
— Part 2: Household and Similar Electrical Appliances;
— Part 3: General Labelling for Cosmetics;
— Part 4: Textiles and Apparel;
— Part 5: Toys;
— Part 6: Furniture;
— Part 7: Sports Equipment.
This Document replaced GB/T 5296.5-2006 Instructions for Use of Products of Consumer Interest – Part 5: Toys. Compared with GB/T 5296.5-2006, the major technical changes of this Document are as follows besides the structural adjustments and editorial modifications.
a) Change the terms and definitions in the “Instructions for Use” (see 3.2 of this Edition; 3.2 of the 2006 Edition);
b) Delete the term “Durability Label” (see 3.3 of the 2006 Edition);
c) Change the provisions in the “General Requirements” (see Clause 4 of this Edition;
Chapter 4 of the 2006 Edition);
d) Change the provisions in the “Product Name” (see 5.1 of this Edition; 5.1 of the 2006 Edition);
e) Change the provisions in the “Product Model or Specification” (see 5.2 of this Edition; 5.2 of the 2006 Edition);
f) Change the provisions in the “Implementation Standard Number” (see 5.3 of this Edition; 5.3 of the 2006 Edition);
g) Change the provisions in the “Main Components or Materials” (see 5.4 of this Edition);

5 Toys
1 Scope
This Document specifies the general requirements, main content, format, and compilation requirements for instructions for use of toy products.
This Document applies to the compilation of instructions for use of toy products.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this Document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 Toy
Any product that is designed or explicitly intended for use by children under the age of 14 in play.
3.2 Instruction for use
Information that is provided by product manufacturers or service providers to users, containing all necessary information on how to use the product or service safely and effectively.

4 General Requirements
4.1 Toy products shall be delivered with instructions for use.
4.2 The instructions for use shall contain relevant information on the correct and safe use of the toy.
4.3 The instructions for use shall truthfully reflect the toy product's use effects and shall not contain exaggerated or false information.
4.4 The content and structure of the instructions for use shall meet the requirements of GB/T 5296.1.
5 Main Contents
5.1 Product name
The name of the toy product shall be indicated.
5.2 Product model or specification
The model or specification of the toy product shall be indicated. For a series of toy products, if multiple models or specifications are included, the name, specifications, and main differences of each model shall be clearly listed on the product packaging or in the instructions for use.
5.3 Implementation standard number
The implementation standard number of the toy product shall be indicated.
NOTE. When the implementation standard number does not include the year, the product is considered to meet the requirements of the latest valid standard.
5.4 Main components or materials
The names of the main components or materials of the toy product shall be indicated; for toy products containing filling, the common names and content of the main components of the fabric and filling materials shall also be indicated.
5.5 Applicable age range
The age range for which the toy product is applicable shall be indicated and shall comply with the provisions of GB 6675.1, GB 6675.2, and GB/T 28022.
5.6 Safety warnings
For toy products where improper use may endanger personal or property safety, warnings shall be provided in the instructions for use. The labeling requirements, expression methods, and markings of safety warnings shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 19865, GB 6675.1, GB 6675.2, GB 6675.3, GB 6675.4, GB/T 26710, and GB/T 27708.
5.7 Instructions for use
The instructions for use shall indicate the correct operating methods, functional descriptions, and applicable usage environments for the toy products.
5.8 Assembly tutorial
For toy products requiring assembly, the instructions for use shall provide assembly steps, diagrams, and related tutorials.
5.9 Precautions
The precautions provided in the instructions for use shall include, but are not limited to, environmental protection tips, recycling information, and storage requirements for the toy products.
5.10 Maintenance and care
Where necessary, the instructions for use shall indicate the maintenance and care methods required to maintain the normal use and cleanliness of the toy products.
5.11 Shelf life
The instructions for use shall indicate the production date and safe usage period or expiration date (in year, month, day order) for toy products with a limited shelf life.
5.12 Name and address of manufacturer and distributor
