1 Scope

GB/T 44728-2024 sets the technical specification for tracing reused parts taken from end-of-life vehicles. China legalised the resale of recovered vehicle parts, which created a large market and an obvious risk at the same time: a used steering knuckle or airbag with no history is a safety problem, and without traceability the legitimate trade cannot be distinguished from the trade in stolen or unsafe parts. This standard is the answer. It sets the scope of the parts covered and their classification, the identification scheme and the coding of an individual part, the information that has to be recorded at each stage, the donor vehicle and its identity, the dismantling, the inspection and grading of the part, the storage, the sale and the fitting, the requirements on the traceability platform and on the data exchanged with it, the marking and labelling of the part itself, the retention periods, and the verification and audit of the records. For a dismantler, a parts trader, a repairer or an insurer in China, this is the framework the trade is regulated under.

This document specifies the overall requirements, traceability process, traceability information, traceability information providers, traceability information The platform, traceability code encoding rules and traceability code identification requirements describe the corresponding verification methods. This document applies to the collection, use and management of traceability information of recycled parts from scrapped motor vehicles.

3 Terms and Definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB 22128, GB/T 26989 and the following apply to this document.

3.2 An organization engaged in the sales and after-sales service of recycled parts and having the technical service capabilities such as secondary disassembly, cleaning, and testing.

3.3 traceability unit Individual reused items that require information about their history, application, or location to be recorded, identified, and traceable.

3.4 traceability code A code that uniquely identifies the traceability unit by a scrapped motor vehicle recycling and dismantling enterprise or a recycled parts service enterprise.

4 General Requirements

4.1 The traceability information of recycled parts shall be accurate, reliable, publicly available and measurable.
