1 Scope

GB/T 42607-2023 sets the safety requirements for powered hand-held hedge trimmers. It covers the engine-driven and battery machines used in landscaping rather than the domestic mains tool: heavier, held at arm's length on a shoulder strap, often above head height, with a blade that keeps moving after the throttle is released. The braking time of that blade is the single most important number in the standard. It lists the significant hazards and then sets and verifies the safety requirements: the handles and hand protection, the shoulder strap, the holding torque, the blade braking time, the blade sheath and the cutting attachments, the starting and idling behaviour, the control devices, the guards, the noise and vibration, and the information for use, with an annex on the safety signs. It took effect on 1 December 2023.
