Scope
GB/T 41959-2022 is the English-translated version of 含镍电镀污泥处理处置方法.
GB/T 41959-2022 is the Chinese national standard on how nickel-bearing sludge from electroplating is treated and disposed of, together with the environmental protection requirements that go with it.
Clause 3 takes its terms from GB/T 38066 and defines the sludge as the material containing nickel compounds that forms when the electroplating industry treats its waste liquid, and the acid leaching process as leaching the target metal with an inorganic acid into the liquid phase, separating solid from liquid and recovering the metal as compounds.
Clause 4 opens with the curing and stabilization method, whose stated scope of application is sludge in which the nickel content is less than 0.5%; the preview stops there, so the methods listed after it are not visible.
Among the standards it quotes are GB 5085.3-2007 and GB 5085.7 on hazardous waste identification, GB 18599 on industrial solid waste landfill, GB/T 21933.1 for nickel determination and HG/T 2824 on industrial nickel sulfate. Issued on 30 December 2022, it has applied since 1 July 2023.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions defined in GB/T 38066 apply to this document.
3.1 Sludge containing nickel compounds formed during
the treatment of waste liquid (water) in the electroplating industry.
3.2 Acid leaching process
The target metal in the sludge is leached with inorganic acid, transferred to the liquid phase, and then solid-liquid separation is used to enrich and purify the target metal in the solution. Metals are recovered in the form of compounds.
4 Disposal methods
4.1 Curing stabilization method
4.1.1 Scope of application
The nickel content in nickel-containing electroplating sludge is less than 0.5%.
