Scope
GB/T 41222-2021 is the English-translated version of 土壤质量 农田地表径流监测方法.
GB/T 41222-2021 is a method for monitoring surface runoff from farmland at field scale. It covers the layout of the runoff monitoring plots and the installation of the monitoring equipment, the collection, analysis and testing of runoff samples, and the calculation of sediment content, runoff volume, soil loss and pollutant discharge.
Normative annexes describe the arrangement of the monitoring plots, the runoff diversion device and the runoff tank or drum with their installation, the runoff basin and drainage system, and the structure and installation of farmland runoff collection pipes.
The analyses rely on referenced methods for total nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen and total phosphorus in water and soil. It was issued on 31 December 2021 and has applied since 1 July 2022.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Farmland
Land where crops are grown and cultivated regularly and can be harvested normally.
Note: Crops include food crops and various economic crops (vegetable crops, fiber crops, oil crops, sugar crops, fodder crops, medicinal crops, fruit trees, mulberry, tea, tobacco and flower nurseries, etc.).
3.2 Farmland surface runoff
After precipitation or irrigation water enters the farmland soil, except for plant interception, evaporation, infiltration and ridge storage, the rest flows through the field drainage outlet or […]
