Scope

GB/T 38942-2020 is the English-translated version of 压力管道规范 公用管道.

GB/T 38942-2020 is the Chinese standard "Pressure piping code - Utility piping". Its scope clause reads: This standard specifies the safety-related basic requirements for materials, design and calculation, manufacture and installation, inspection and test, safe operation and maintenance of utility piping (gas piping and heat piping).

This standard is applicable to the following urban gas piping and urban heat piping: a) Gas piping: utility gas piping and ancillary facilities from gas plants or stations such as gate station, storage and distribution station and various gas source plants or stations to users or between plants/stations, with the ancillary facilities including line valve chamber, pressure regulating station (including pressure regulating box), condenser cylinder, etc., see Figure 1 for details. b) Heat piping: steam piping and hot water piping and their ancillary facilities laid in cities and towns from the demarcation point of heat source outlet to the demarcation point of heat user (civil or industrial) inlet, see Figure 2 for details.

Of them the medium design pressure is less than or equal to 2.5 MPa for both steam and hot water and the design temperature is less than or equal to 350°C for steam or less than or equal to 200°C for hot water.

This standard is not applicable to the following gas piping and heat piping: a) The gas piping in the plant or station (except the pressure regulating station) in the gas system and the heat piping in the plant or station (except the heat station and the heat distribution station) in the heat system; b) Internal gas piping and heat piping for industrial users (divided by plant boundaries); c) Internal gas piping (divided by building service pipe valve) and heat piping (divided by heat inlet) for commercial and residential users; d) Internal piping of gas and heat equipment.

Keys: Piping systems to which this standard applies Scope beyond the application scope of this standard Valve chambers and pressure regulating stations (including pressure regulating boxes) covered by this standard GB/T 34275 shall be implemented for the gas piping between the distribution station and the gate station.

If the gas piping is laid in the built-up area of the city, this standard may be referred to for implementation.

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

3.1 utility piping

gas piping and heat piping for public utilities or civil use in cities or towns, with gas piping of Class GB1 and heat piping of Class GB2

3.2 design pressure

pressure used to determine the wall thickness of the piping at the corresponding design temperature, which shall not be smaller than the maximum working pressure of the piping

3.3 design temperature

temperature set for element with the piping under normal conditions

Note: The design temperature and design pressure together serve as the design condition.

3.4 design working life

service life during which the engineering facilities can be used for the intended purpose only by normal maintenance without overhaul within a specified period

3.5 stress analysis

verification of ability of the piping to absorb displacement deformation caused by thermal expansion, cold contraction and others through its own deformation by stress calculation

3.6 pipe laying with elastic bending

way of piping laying by virtue of elastic bending deformation of piping caused by external force or dead weight

3.7 utility tunnel

structures and ancillary facilities built underground in cities to accommodate two or more types of urban engineering pipelines

3.8 gas

generic term for gaseous fuels

Note: Urban gas generally includes natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas and artificial gas.

3.9 gas displacement

process of displacing the air in the piping with gas after the construction or repair of the gas piping is completed

3.10 gas conversion

process of converting one kind of gas into another due to some reason of the gas piping

3.11 building service pipe

piping between the outdoor gas distribution branch pipe and the main valve of the user's indoor gas inlet pipe (or the height 1.0 m above the indoor floor if there is no valve)

3.12 pipe fittings

generic term for various special-shaped connectors on piping such as elbows, bends, tees, reducing joints and pipe seal heads […]
